mealybar Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Tomorrow will see the UNC racing from Brookland, while the rest of the NEHU are a couple of miles away at Eastbourne. Another spot the difference is their racing for the Queens Cup, UNC aint! I cant understand the UNC denying its members the chance to fly for what may be the most prestigeous race this season; members of my club were dismayed by the decision, how did it go down in your area of the combine, Speight? Carl? Ste?
BIGK Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Its just one of those things mealybar, we were out voted and thats that, i was disappointed not cause i have any chance of winning it but you never know do you, as you have said it is the most prestegious race this year as its the queens 80th birthday and as its the queens cup its got to have been the ultimate in 2006, never mind we only have to look back to last year to find the same thing happend, missed opportunities!!!
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 never mind we only have to look back to last year to find the same thing happend, missed opportunities!!! ????????? Pardon ? The Queens Cup last year from Clermont ? The UNC took part in it Our club is bloody furious that the UNC could make such a decision without it being put to the members
mealybar Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 At least now we have Bourges,, roll on the 7th :)
BIGK Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 Redcheqhen, by missed oppurtuntities I was referring to the fiasco of the centenary races last year and add the Queens Cup flown for every year, under celebrating is where im coming from, who unless you dig deep knows who won any of these prizes last year? its not front page news unless the guy who's photographed the bird puts it on, nothings on North East tonite etc etc etc, MISSED opportunities to celebrate and advertise our sport. Sorry for your club, ours were the same. Cheers
mealybar Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 To be fair I think this is the fault of the combine. Where is a combine press officer? Where is the publicity that our winners deserve? Look at the way other national and classic clubs opperate in this country, none are perfect, but we are far from being like any of them.
BIGK Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 100%, a press officer would be good, but who'd do it everyone wants money nowadays no one does anything for nowt. Except muggins!! cheers
mealybar Posted June 26, 2006 Author Report Posted June 26, 2006 The position should be advertised, within the combine or in the fancy press, you dont get people comming forward if they dont know what you want them to do. Many of the press officers do the job off their 'own bat' once they have it, however some are given expenses. I think the reward of being press officer is enough to be visiting the top notch lofts and handling some of the best birds in the country.
toofawest Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 redcheqhen,i cant beileve in this day and age of human rights and numerous other rights, that the pigeon sport is still in the 1800,s and things can be changed without official notice, without having a meeting of club members etc.,a commitee can just change things and thats that. it would not be put up with in any other sport. but unfortunetly years of apathy and sayings like"i know best cos i have forty years experience",have put this sport to the edge of extinction, and there still using that war cry,for god sake to have that amount of experience they must be pretty old,so maybe they cant see the decline in membership, but bad eyesight is no excuse for stupidity. being very new to this sport and having no family background in the sport,i just happend to stumble upon it and started a couple of years ago,i have now visited and still visit 4 lofts in holland,3lofts in belgium,1loft in germany, and have also visited lofts in america,i have made solid friendships with the guys with the lofts in holland, belgium, and germany,i have also seen many different ways of doing things, both in lofts and at clubs, some seem better some not so good as ours, but whenever i mention anything its the old warcry ,"i know best cos i have experience", this is wrong becouse they have experience of the old ways wich unfortunetly has brought the sport to its knees, let the younger guys have a go and have a say, with the older guys and maybe just maybe we can get somewhere.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 100%, a press officer would be good, but who'd do it everyone wants money nowadays no one does anything for nowt. Except muggins!! cheers WHEN I TOOK ON THE JOB AS THE PRO FOR LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION IT WAS NOT FOR MONEY BECAUSE THERE WAS NONE ,I JUST WANTED WHAT YOU WANT ,TO SEE THE WINNERS OF THE BIG RACES GETTING SOME PUBLICITY.
pender Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 i think they deserve at least expenses, remember it not just good results that sell pigeons and it not for these people puting lot of time and effort in to writing these reports the sport may not have lasted as long either.
