thunderboult Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 it varies a bit around the country but towards the end of july for me. if you say around month to wean and around another month learning to fly and raking and 3 weeks or so training before the races start.
Guest kev d Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 white logan, if you pair up some time in feb like i am your yb will be plenty old enough to race come july that gives you time to realy train them up with out rushing them hopefully it will be warmer by then (feb)
white logan Posted January 12, 2009 Author Report Posted January 12, 2009 so there is no big rush to breed loads of early youngsters then , i was thinking of pairing up at the end of feb and seeing what happens , i hope they come home

bird man of meath Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 your best pairing st.valentines day an old romatic ;D ;D
peterpau Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Just wanted to ask how many days can u tell if the egg is filled i use a torch. 4 or 5 days would be about right. Me I go for mid March, as I don't like mine too old. I get on better with later bred babbies and still managed a very respectable place in BBC Lamballe race, with one of the longest flying youngsters in the convoy at 270+ mile. I hate waiting that long but!!!!!!!!!!!!
thomasd Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 it hads been very cold latey and have the birds down on eggs while they were sitting i put barly straw in thier bowls so that thier could get some heat 1 pair did not sit back on the eggs till next morning it wasnt the freezing cold but it was cool r the eggs ok they layed 2 -3 days ago
jimmy white Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 4 or 5 days would be about right. Me I go for mid March, as I don't like mine too old. I hate waiting that long but!!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes youngsters bred at this time can race as good as any darkness yb, as long as their trained at 8 weeks old [or starting to train them] these yb,s will not be as far up with their flights as the older ones [unless on darkness] and the parents more chance of winning in the later , bigger races
Guest IB Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 It's March for me this year, still to double-check date for full moon, around 8th? Agree with Jimmy White, natural youngsters bred just one month earlier are way too far down the wing come the longer YB races.
Guest Owen Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 depends if you want to win YB races. I this area you would be competing against early Ybs that are on the dark and either on widowhood or paired up. Not to mention that they will have had a lot of training. Late Ybs are OK but they are not likely to beat the ones I mentioned. I know that some might but it is not very likely. If you breed very late and avoid using darkness you should have a nice team of yearlings for next year. You pays your money and takes your choice.
Roland Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 hi logan, you can pair up some time towards the end of april/ beging of may. Very true, and better bred birds. Had eggs last week June, they flew (2) 470 miles the following September! I was infact the first flyer from the Northants Fed to do so.
frank-123 Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 today for me went ok all my pairings settled well apart from my no 1 pair which took a dislike to each other i have then together in another loft on there own
thomasd Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Same here always the way aways 1 and always the best one pain in da hole
doo Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 when is the latest i can pair up if i want to fly some young birds this year , it will be my first year and i dont want to rush things and would like to wait for the warmer weather first . thanks Fantastc .....a new starter who's doing things the right way .........well done
doo Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Take your yb's .....train them well Basket & road .......race them to 100 miles then .....finish for season ....you should (god willing) have some nice yearlings to go 250 miles the next year ...........be fair to your birds & they will thank you.
