Keepsmilingqueen Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Hi all i have a spare janssen hen and she has paired up with jimmy whites staf van reet cock in addition to his own hen (there is only the 3 of them in that section so it cant be anyone else) anyway this spare hen has gone down on eggs, the question is should i let em hatch and see what happens or is Janssen X staf van reet an absoulute NO, will these youngbirds be useless oppinions apprechiated all the best sharron
Ronnie Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Lol i hope there not useless Sharon my main youngbird racers are gonna be same way bred this year .You will probably throw out a super champion and everyone will be saying what a good stock person you are
stevebelbin Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Forget about strains - as long as the birds are both happy and are from winning stock then whats the prob. Staf Van Reets birds were crossed in originally and so are Jimmy Whites
westy Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 just leave them to it i have had a gay pied hen pair up to 1 of jimmy whites ybs he bred me last year ive just left them to it they may not be useless you dont know ontill they have been raced.
Wiley Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 its a load of rubbish to many people think pure breds are the best what a load of rubbish no family is of pure breds!forget the bs of strains and family aslong as you got good pigeons!
stevebelbin Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 And if you really dont want them to be crossed strains - Ill have em and test them for you ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Hi Sharron, no probs with crossing strains. Wondered how you intend to incubate the spare hen's eggs tho? Have you a foster pair?
pigeonpete Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 hi sharron, 1 of the best fanciers in our fed races van reet x jannsen i better tell him there all cr*p ;D ;D :D bet not many people these days have got 1 strain of blood through their lofts
birdman55678 Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 OK here is my 2 cents worth. There really isn't any such thing as pure strains anymore, if you look at a true pedigree there are many different birds in the backgrounds. Forget the danged pedigrees and pair up the birds to produce whatever type you like. Pigeons race, pedigrees don't. On a side note if your just putting birds together to become a pigeons peddler than I guess the paper matings would be better but if your racing forget it. Ed
Keepsmilingqueen Posted January 29, 2007 Author Report Posted January 29, 2007 thanx for all your replies iv floated the eggs under my tumblers that i use as droppers they had conveniently laid at the same time and i shall see what comes out ov em, you never know it may be the best thing iv ever done, there could be a combine winner inside lol ;D best wishes sharron
Guest Paulo Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 its a load of rubbish to many people think pure breds are the best what a load of rubbish no family is of pure breds!forget the bs of strains and family aslong as you got good pigeons! Busschaerts are best mongrals going look up hyrid vigour crosses strengthen pigeons as long as its winner to winner.
Roland Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Yeah ... be a bit worry crossing it with a Duck or sommat ... but a pigeon to another pigeon is just 'Pigeons' regardless what loft they are in or come from.
Keepsmilingqueen Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 thanx roland might try crossing with ducks or maybe seagulls next year lol then if they cant fly home on water/channel races then at least they can swim ;D :B :
edthekid Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 arnt van reets janssen based anyway...............
PIGEON_MAN Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 I guess everyones heard what the best to cross with is,a parrot, then when they get lost they can ask their way home. lol the old ones are the best.
Ronnie Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 could you cross a racer with a wood pigeon? or are they to far removed?
Wiley Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 yes it has been done! Will be no good tho mate to race, a friend of mine also had a wood pigeon baby brought it up said had it flying with the flock then one day he let it out it went into the trees still hangs about and is really tame but will not enter the loft
Keepsmilingqueen Posted February 4, 2007 Author Report Posted February 4, 2007 ;DDont wood pigeons have a different diet ??? i thought woodies ate seeds and fruit while racers ate corn :-/ i wonder what a woodie X racer looks like ??
Guest shadow Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Yes you can but the offspring are sterile and they will not return if taken to far from the loft, waste of time really
Ronnie Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 shame they are sterile could be interesting to cross the young back in to the racers two or three times see what you got Sharon how are the baby's coming along mine are crackers ive got a real nice pair with some wierd marking's a local pigeon man said they are called Print's look like scales to me
Keepsmilingqueen Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Hi ronnie my eggs arnt due out yet theyve only been laid 14 days so iv got a little while yet till they hatch on the subject of crossing i wonder if you crossed a racer with something fancy maybe a high flyer or roller then bred back to racers if they would retain homing ability or just be capable of homing round the loft
Ronnie Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I dunno thats the sort of thing that interest me but ive only been racing last one season of young birds so thats all in the future for me
Guest shadow Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Hi ronnie my eggs arnt due out yet theyve only been laid 14 days so iv got a little while yet till they hatch on the subject of crossing i wonder if you crossed a racer with something fancy maybe a high flyer or roller then bred back to racers if they would retain homing ability or just be capable of homing round the loft If you want to race your birds DON'T cross them with fancies as they will lose their homing ability get them to far from their home and you will lose them
Keepsmilingqueen Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 If you want to race your birds DON'T cross them with fancies as they will lose their homing ability get them to far from their home and you will lose them Dont worry shadow i have no plans at all to Ever lol i was just wondering if it was possible as im sure a fancier on here said he crossed a West of england with a racer and managed to train it consistently from 40 miles as a youngbird before clipping it down as a dropper. ;D
