health and motivation  :)

I think the motivation part of this answear is what i would of said, the more you can get the bird motivated i think the keener it it will be to get home hopefully at an increased speed.

Peterpau,

I would most definately say yes, even more so than land to get a pigeon to keep coming for 13 hours plus it must be healthy and the motivation for it to keep going also has to be there otherwise it would go down.

strap a rocket to it ;D ;D (only joking)

There was a bloke in our club (packed in now like), and its not as extreme as a rocket, but he used to strap weights to the birds to increase there muscle when exercising LOL LOL LOL!!! Didnt make a blind bit of difference to his performances  ;D ;D ;D, but it was funny!!!

Hi Guys,

Im a newbie and asking for VETERANS suggestions.....

How can I increase my birds speed???

Thanks in advance....!

batusai! :)

Batusai.  This is a good question and one that I am sure everyone would like a cut and dried answer to.  Alas here goes with my ideas.  To start with you don't need great birds to increase the speed, its very possible though that the increased speed may not do any good if the birds can't get over what ever your normal YPM is.  What I would suggest is adding GOOD vitimins to the water or feed on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of your race week, also add a minimum of 1/3 total safflower to your feed program, one other thing I personally do is to give the birds a couple drops of alderberry juice down the throat before basketing.  I am sure there will be those that will disregard this and maybe even try to discredit it, but I would suggest giving it a try and answering the question on the clock.  Guarenteed your speeds will increase, that is unless your already doing this.  Good luck either way.   Ed

What about breeding pearl to pearl, my thoughts are that was the way to breed faster pigeons, fast as owt but cann't find there way home.

any other thoughts on the eye for speed?

yours mO.

Hi mO.  Yep your right, white to white will increase your speed and possibly that is the answer he was looking for, but beware when doing this as it also tends to decrease the birds homing and intelligence in the majority of the birds, its best to always stay with the yellow to white or even yellow to yellow rather than yellow to white.  But thats my thoughts and I am sure everyone has different ideas.  Ed
