You can have all the money you want but if your a poor stockman forget it .It helps but why then are not all the money men at the top small feds and corridor flying can make people look good .At national or even regional level that changes and then stockmanship and knowing your birds tells.

what..so your saying a man on the dole, benefits, can have good stock and win dont think so,it costs money for everything, good corn, good pigeons, training(fuel),and the extras.its all money, you get half way there then you think about the others that you say

i voted no,, but it sure helps ;D

Agree with you jimmy, but I would also add that some of the best birds you'll probably ever come to own will be gift birds obtained through friendship.

Argree totaly. I voted no because you can have a small team and win big no need to be buying the best of everything basic corn is good enough 10 mile tosses are good enough a decent flyer next to you that gifts you pigeons are good enough but 1 thing I will say is to start up you need some money to buy a clock a loft and to join a club/fed after that you can keep it to a minimum and still win. Good Luck

Hi i voted no  you dont need money to be successfull but it helps !! i have just recently started pigeons have joined a club and have been gifted some late breeds also bought couple of pair from piggy as he was giving up as in most sports what you put in you will get back etc  time with the birds , feeding properly and over all health of the birds must b checked daily . then selection of birds for your breeding program must be correct putting all this together and having a plan and sticking to it . but hey what do i know only started couple of months !!! But i look forward to putting this to the test when i start club racing next year .

in any type of racing success is about personal achievment whether it is the performance of your stock against your peers .or obtaining your on personal goal with what you have got. Horse racing ,greyhond racing, are awash with money and expensive animals as every ones strives to purchase success.puting the best  to the best and hopeing for the best needs money I agree that stockmanship and knowehow are needed put that along with the ability to purchase the foundations of a team and you are nearly there.AS one great football manager said winning isnt everything its the only thing.Got no stock got no money new to the sport looks like im in trouble.good job im just in it for fun and i love animals.

Mac i am saying a man on a small income who cannot afford much for birds can beat the bigboys it happens all the time .They can win internationals, nationals etc yes money can help but its down to the flyer and his stock sense. In fed sprinting it may be different but to be frank who cares about sprinting in small feds with small radius ie 10 mile feds .

you need a morgage just to send them train them feed them medicate them thats without trying to buy the best your pocket will allow

If not money, decent friends, and if you start doing well they quickly dry up and a batcth of excuses of why they can't is the only help your get.

See many, indeed too many pack up racing partly for this reason.

Which brings back the very esence of what one often hears. 'You'll have to train / work harder to compete with the ....

Does this mean that a penniless stockman is going to A. Beat a equeally good stockman that has a few bob?

or that that stockman does work his socks of and spend time and effort to  compete at the highest level. To believe that is rather silly to say the least.

Of course he does. But wind and location are an even bigger asset to those that have been and are able to move - like so very many - to prime locations.

Mind we can all live with that...  but the bigger picture is that many the 'Haves' and their cliques still want every and all lea way their can muster, and when it is pointed out you are a whinger and a moaner, for speaking the truth!

Like me I whinged for England according to a certain sauce.... For stating that I wish to, and believe it only fair to be hadicapped for using the decisive more beneficial ET than those not - for any reason - aren't able!

Strange I have ben the only one so far ever in this so - called sport that agree with that. But then I am a fair minded and decent sportsman.

at the end of the day its supposed to be a sport, depending on how much you earn and what you can afford to buy, all you can do is your best, just enjoy the sport,

I think after the initial layout.Ie: shed clock birds. Its then down to the fancier a resourceful fancier dont need  fancy corns and stuff. You do need a regular outlay for corn and race fee's but that go's without saying. But a kit of 6 from Louella could see a good fancier well on there way.Tonics can be found round the home if needed(milk and honey for instance). It may taker longer with limited funds to build and maintain a good team but certainly not out of reach.

went to a sale to day some wonderful birds there started from £90 upto £800. 56 birds selling for an average of £230. it was a compleat contrast this man was a top flyer that had developed his own stock and was retirering .and i am a just starting. i got nothing as i could only aford the feathers left in the cage. but this chap musnt have started with the best and developed it and added to his loft over many years .so yes you need money to start of with the best. but you will like this gentleman achieve great satisfaction and knowhow over a period of time developing your own string even if it is on a small budget. not everybody is out to make money in pigeon racing as i wish to thank the people on this site that have offered me some birds to start with.

i think you would be able to get latebreds from very successful fanciers very cheaply, i think from their  on , its patients and management [and a long hard learning process, with more downs than ups ,,unfortunately,, but the ones that stick at it through thick and thin,,,,,,get there in the end :)

you dont need money, but you do need plenty of something you cant buy!! thats time ;) wish i had more

But the problem is you can buy time the top bloke around ours hires someone full time to clean out and train his birds.

Its very hard to compete when they:-

A. Have good pigeons

B. Send a lot of pigeons

C. two in the partnership plus one employed fulltime

I was up at 4.30am this morning to train my pigeons
