Blue Chequer Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 I always wing stamp my youngbirds, plus name & tel no. rings which have to come off for racing (NEHU) I had a yearling Hen in here tonight in the North East stamped up with a Blackpool number. I rang the owners and had the usual reply (do you know anyone coming over this way) makes you wonder if they are worth the phone call. I like to inform fanciers where their birds have got too and hope that they want them back.
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 We had more than a dozen strays in last year, I got one put up in Manchester, another Harrogate, a few at Leeds, one at Barnsley. one from Blackpool, put up at Leeds, and several put up in Tyne and Wear. 2 were Amtrak'd back home (Scotland and Cornwall) I'm North East coast, have had a Dutch one in since May, and a young one from Bradford wasn't wanted by its owner, so it was transferred to us, we didn't really want it at first- it's the only stray we have transferred, he had his first race last week - and scored. That is very satisfying isn't it ?
rockinrick Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 no i dont wing stamp cos it takes a would be thief 2 secs to pull a feather ,whereas i do double ring my birds 1 rpra ring and 1 lost ring jus incase
Guest Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 A lot of clubs in the USA get a contact number printed on the identification ring, I don't think it costs anymore than a ring without it. We buy what's called Vanity Rings ie. our rings are Red Rose instead of the club designation and have our telephone number on the Vanity rings do cost a little more but we have had a lot of birds reported for us and other people , mostly by none flyers. Something worth looking into with your Unions.
sapper756 Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 SHU STATE YOU MUST WINGSTAMP ALL YOUNG BIRDS, YET SNFC DON,T ALLOW IT, SO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE BEFORE ENTERING IN THE SNFC YOUNG BIRD NATIONAL CRAZY OR WHAT ??) ??) ??)
Guest shadow Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 no i dont wing stamp cos it takes a would be thief 2 secs to pull a feather ,whereas i do double ring my birds 1 rpra ring and 1 lost ring jus incase If they want the bird they will keep it whether it is wingstamped or carries two closed rings . Rings can be removed just as easy as pulling feathers.
