Guest Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 I would like to know what members think of wing stamps and i bought wing stamps at Blackpool show and always have stamped my pigeons wing's, and do you fanciers usually look wing stamps or look the rungs number and throw it out?
westburylofts Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 Always look for a wing stamp or name and address ring, We always report a stray bird to the owner. We also wingstamp our birds with just our phone number on it RAY
Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 SHU requires all young birds to be wing stamped. Mine is telephone number only, but I wonder if I should have them Club stamped too.
Guest speckled Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Yes, I wing stamp alll my birds, with only the phone number, which includes the "std" code of are area as well.I stamp all the youngster,as i wean them over, I usally, start from the 3rd flight, upward, stamping the 4th & 5th flyet aswell.I only wing stamp one side, & when racing starts i will check the birds as i basket to see what wonts re stamping & i weill then stamp the oppisite wings.Do the same to the old birds after the moult. .Dont like using name & address rings, like to keep, one leg free for the race rubber, as with the address rings, i find thay sometimes thay can get caught. Yes Bruno if when are club members put birds though without, a wing stamp,.it will get winged stamped at the club, with the club sec number on it. Speckled.
Chatrace Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 I got mine at Staples for $9 3/8 inch high letters and #s

Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Do you getting often report by wing's stamp or through the letters from RPRA Lost Stray ?
Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Made some of my best friends in England, reported strays that had wing stamps on/
westburylofts Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 DO NOT GET THAT MANY REPORTED FROM ONE YB RACE THIS YEAR WE LOST 15 YB'S ALL WINGSTAMPED BUT NOT ONE REPORTED SO I DO NOT THINK THAT MANY DO REPORT STRAY BIRDS, RAY P.S. BUT WE ALSO HAVE MADE SOME GOOD FRIENDS FROM REPORTING THERE BIRDS,
Guest shadow Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Always wing stamp my birds ,but on saying that dropped 20 Y/B's this year and have yet to have one reported.I report all young birds and old birds that are flown out or injured. the others are fed and watered rested then sent on their way.
westy Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 i put the rings on with the number on there
Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 I had two old birds reported last year through SHU, both non-fanciers. This year I had one old bird reported on a North Sea oil platform, by a fancier, who traced me (with help) through a Scottish Fancier's website. I had one young bird (wearing a telephone ring which someone removed) reported to me through the club secretary, and I live spitting distance from the finders loft. My secretary also tells me that with these two birds, I hold the Club record for the longest and shortest distances for birds reported, 700 miles and 700 yards respectively !!! ;D So absolutely no messing with my birds - they'll go anywhere... bar home.
speedbird Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 isnt it a rpra rule that all birds must be stamped?? or a ring with details
snowy Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 telephone number rings, they are great, but would always report any bird with or without stamp/ring
Pompey Mick Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 i'VE BOUGHT THE COLOURED TEL.No. RINGS FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS, A DIFFERENT COLOUR EVERY YEAR. I'VE BUILT UP A NICE STOCK OF THEM NOW AND FIND THE DIFFERENT COLOURS VERY HANDY WHEN SPLITTING THE BIRDS INTO TEAMS. I FIND THAT NON- FANCIERS REPORT PIGEONS MORE OFTEN WHEN THEY WEAR A NAME & ADDRESS RING AS IT IS MORE VISIBLE TO THEM THAN A WING STAMP. TROUBLE IS THEY NORMALLY READ IT WITHOUT CATCHING THE PIGEON WHICH CAN BE A BIT AWKWARD WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING IT BACK.
Guest speckled Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Totally agree with ya pompey mick, The name & address ring are more visable.i myself when walking the town look,at the pigeons,(no not for future stock) .to see if thay are tagged,& thay sure do stand out. But its the fanciers choice ah. Speckled.
alan_smith Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Allways wing stamp he bird's R.P.R.A. Rule i think it is about time clubs were made to check the birds are wing stamped or have a name and address ring . Alan
red_devil Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Well said Alan If any members birds do not carry a name and address ring or wingstamp. then there birds should not be allowed in that weeks race. Also all clubs should have a wing stamp Greg Davis
Guest Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 R.R.P.A members. some fanciers stamped on the birds old/yb's . not at all does they? Alan
lisa simpson Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 We have had a few birds in the last few years that have come into our loft with a race rubber on but no wing stamp or name and address ring on. Think i would ave to agree that clubs should make sure every bird that go's into the race have one or the other on them. LISA
Guest Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 I think old birds, young birds and stock birds should have stamp. Stock Birds is the HUGE reason : if you cleaning in the lofts sometimes birds escape from the lofts. a few fanciers do this. and they need to stamp
Mistifire Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Sorry for the newbie question but, where do you stamp a bird? under the feathers on the wing? also is it just normal ink that wears off ?
Guest Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Misti I stamp on the top of the 8th 9th and 10th primary on each wing. Get one of those stamp pads from Office Max, the ink will not run or wear off. I always find that red ink stands out.
Guest Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 We can purchase what we call Vanity Bands from the AU, ours have "Red Rose" instead of the club designation and our telephone number is printed on these. Clubs can also request a phone number be printed on their bands.
