Ed Bourque Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 is it possable to keep eggs for three or four days, and then put under a pair?
Hogni Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Yes it is Ed, You just have to turn them twice a day, you can even keep them for much longer, i have heard up to 28 days. About at what tempreture they must be kept at i don´t know but i have kept eggs at everything from 5-15° celsius and they have hatched fine.
Guest shadow Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 main thing is to keep them turned and cool
Guest Hjaltland Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 To be honest I've had them lying around untouched for weeks and still hatch. Not much luck sending through the mail though.
Hogni Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Have you tried that Hjaltland, to send or get eggs by mail?
sammy Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Have you tried that Hjaltland, to send or get eggs by mail? use a toilet roll lad
sammy Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Explain the toilet roll thing please rap eggs in cotton wool then slide them inside the empty toilet roll
Guest Hjaltland Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Tried sending several times this year with no luck.
Guest Hjaltland Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Hey Hogni... do you know Runolfsson?
Hogni Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Yes i know Mr. Omar Runolfsson, he doesn´t race anymore but he came to visit my loft in the spring to get rings for a friend and to look at the birds and i will invite him again when i´ll get the 2008 rings.
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 rap eggs in cotton wool then slide them inside the empty toilet roll have you tried bubble wrap? wrap in bubble wrap pockets and then pack the sides of a box with bubble wrap so they don't move - I had some small plants sent through the post earlier in the year and they arrived in perfect condition
jimmy white Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 ive found the best way to send eggs in in a loaf of bread , pull out the dough and place each egg in packed between the dough ,,,,,,,,,,,and if that fails ;D at least youll have an egg sandwich ;D ;D [no, but seriously have done this in the past and it worked ]
Ed Bourque Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 thanks again, to all you gents for the help, I know I could get the answer on this forum. Ed
chickadee Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 rap eggs in cotton wool then slide them inside the empty toilet roll Try putting cotton wool into an egg box and then you have individual pockets for your eggs, and put a little cotton wool on top too then tape the box shut, thats how we,ve transported eggs before.
Hogni Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 i have no trouble transporting eggs that i can keep with me when i go abroad but to send by mail might need some more thinking because we don´t know what treatment they are getting
Sajfos Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 If You remove the eggs IMMEDIATELY YOU SEE THE HEN LAY !! , they will be viable for months if kept cool & turned daily , (put in an egg carton & turn the whole carton) . You need to remove the egg from under the Hen as soon as She lays & before the egg strikes ! I have kept eggs this way right through Winter ...one Year I took 12 & hatched 10 , this is about average anyway . PM Me if You are unsure . Steve...
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 is it possable to keep eggs for three or four days, and then put under a pair? UNTILL I SAW THIS POST I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD KEEP EGGS FOR A TIME
Guest Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Jimmy Brown or White. ;D ;D ;D Good tip!!
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 To be honest I've had them lying around untouched for weeks and still hatch. Not much luck sending through the mail though. what is the longest you know of that they have been kept and hatched ?
Guest Hjaltland Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Tammy I've had them lying around for some weeks and still hatch. The weather is never all that warm up here so I guess that has a bearing on it. Dont ask me to put a figure on it, I've never looked at this scientifically. An acquaintance of mine reckoned he'd had eggs lying over winter and they'd still hatched next year - he could spin a yarn or two so I wouldnt stake a months pay on it! Cheers from the frozen north
Fair Play Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 What kind of loaf Jimmy? Plain,Pan or Vienna ;D ;D ;D
Merlin Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Eggs through mail, try sending them when they are between 10 and 14 days old as embryo at this stage in most instances will withstand buffeting they receive if packed properly in cotton wool, recently laid eggs become addled with buffeting in mail, and are very unlikely to hatch, many years ago had many successful hatchings with this system. Merlin.
Fair Play Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 You cxould well be right Merlin "body" in the egg will bond it together
