Okitsme Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Hi Just a quick question. I have just realised that I have put a ring on upside down on one of my squeakers. The bird is too old now to remove the ring. Will I still be able to race it or is it now lost to the sport? Regards David

DUBLINFLYER Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 makes no odds. dont worry bout it,its grand as long as da 4 toes are thru it ok
Guest Bonzo Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 i always put my ring on up sidedown make it easier to read the number when holding the bird
Merlin Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 its actually the correct way to put it on for ease of reading
Guest slugmonkey Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 If you look at the band you will see one end is smooth metal the other kinda sharp plastic I always put the smooth end down so it is better on the bird
Guest MBpigeonguy Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 i always out my rings on upside down, every one i know does it, its easyer to read, lasy year i put one on the other way, no big deal, later in the year the bird died,
frank-123 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 i ring mine holding the bird's head towards your belly on the left leg upside down so i can read it on the left leg because it is easier to put its right leg in the ringer when marking nothing worse when marking they are on the wrong leg upside down ;D
carlsberg Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 i ring mine on right leg because for me it is easier to to put its left leg in the ringer
homer Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 forgot to say i m left handed was worried about droping young or taking too long to get ring as never it doing bef :'( :'( :'( if you r new to ringing young do it over/on top of a work surface or nest box floor. or even crouch down and ring a few inches off the floor that way if it does wriggle free ,no harm done.
Guest casbri Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 you can put ring on either way any leg
Guest Paulo Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 no you can still race it you will get your leg pulled for putting it like that Most pigeon men in the North East put them on upside down makes it easer to read them when you are race making the birds in our club you'd get mocked for putting them on the right way
Guest spin cycle Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 just realised i've put first 4 on wrong legs (b****r..!) i would't mind but i've tried hard to get it right. my mate showed me a good way , place yb facing away from you on flat surface, draw back right leg and place ring upside down. for my flat surface i use wheelie bin (no jokes please). in reality it doesn't matter. actually ...have i got it right now ? :-/
madmaxlofts Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 id be more worried if the bird starts flying upside down lol
chubs Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 id be more worried if the bird starts flying upside down lol l.o.l...could happen...l.o.l
Guest shadow Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 it does not matter which leg you put the ring
