Lennut Tar Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Well I've finally done it after a crap first young bird season where I just got a fourth despite grafting like hell I've broke my duck. My first ever old bird race I took first club and should have had first fed(the fed sec and other fanciers words not mine) but she wouldn't go in and circled for a minute. It was our first race out of wakefield in a cold north wind with show showers and it was a yearling hen nicknamed raggy as she has a frill on her belly. She was sitting 17 day old pot eggs. Gave me great satsification as one of the club members told me she would never win nowt one night when basketing her as pigeons with frills went down in a cold north wind. well saturday was a very hard day and she didn't go down so ha ha. She also has tusks which I like in a hen. Slipped chipping egg under her on sunday so I can get a race out of her next week on small young un before getting her down on eggs again. Sent 11 birds and got 10 back (all yearlings) the hen that was lost was never raced as a YB so was my fault for loosing her for sending her really. Felt good as some people in the club were sending 59's and 40's to the race same throughout the fed and I had a bit of a whinge to my dad as followed his advice and kept the majority of the team at home in case it was a crap race. He told me to stop whining and said one good bird will beat a ton of bad ones and he was right and I was wrong. Lesson learned. Thanks to everyone on here especially David Barkel for their advice. I was very lucky as well to get one through Paulo !!!!!! There is a lot of sh** in this world today :'( :'( :'( But your news is just fabulous to hear for me & many others I assume also "Well Done" & keep it up !!!!. Also, I may be one of the old brigade etc "LMFAO" But I can tell you here now, I just love it when one of the youngsters in this sport like you ;) , put the grumpy old men to shame on race day : : : Especially when you only sent a few pigeons, compared to the mob flyers in your area. PS It appears ??????? you may have a good teacher ;) "Well done DB" Did our little champ have a good pair of eyes 8) 8) 8). Enjoy.

PMSL, You may not beleive this Lennut, but Paolo doesn't believe in Eyesign, and he's my mate! ;D He's from a similar background as me though, in more ways than one! Well done Paul, the credit is all yours! Keep it going! Dave
davebuttle Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 well done mate, I will have to get this hen flying better that you gave me last season, her brother went awol but is now lofted in hull. I have her paired to our 6 year old cock and he was our 1st bird back from Wakefield, but not in the points. Only about 11/2 minutes behind the wing bird. Great start, I will have to get some more youngens from you. I hope to start getting more training in but have been too busy and the weather has been crap. I know we are sending our birds to France with the West Durham this year, Bourges and Beauvais , but we go with the D Combine for Lillers. Dave

jimmy white Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 well done paulo,,, great feeling aint it congrats.
Guest Paulo Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 well done paulo,,, great feeling aint it congrats. better than sex I reckon even better than when I won my first fight in boxing. I just hope I can still compete cause the other lads on the allotments are going totally mental and flagging the pigeons for a hour then taking them training 25 mile I'm just going to stick with what I'm doing they are flying a hour naturally without any form of flagging and taking them training three times a week which I will cut down to 2 when the races get a bit longer just hope I have a bit of luck and manage to keep the birds healthly and get them all home ok and as a bonus beat the flockflyers once in a while suppose I can't expect too much as I'm still learning and haven't got the established teams of birds some people have

Even if you don't believe in eyesign its a fact that the Barkels are good pigeon men. I don't believe in it myself but I respect that others may have different beliefs so I can't really understand the constant bickering if you don't believe in it don't use it as a selection tool. Don't want to argue about it but just can't understand the constant petty digs people are having at Davey and Jack.
