I would never pair full brother and sister together let alone nest mates unless the birds were of exceptional quality, and i mean spectacular on all aspects of disirable traits , and both birds !!

I line breed and in -breed successfully and maitain a high standard of birds bred in this way, i also think the young will become smaller over a period of nests if not superior birds mate.

 

just my findings and opinion. as i have not seen the birds,

Chris there is a certain way to maintain the same gene pool but using a different method of breeding instead of cross breeding, its a method used by alot of top guys of yester year and even today..nest mate or brother and sister do not need to be pair to gain top results with line breeding or inbreeding there are other related idividuals to use with the same results, which then also eliminate any chance of a breeding defect being manifested within the progeny, so maintaining the bloodline and keeping the linage of the champions in tact.

 

brother and sister can be mated , even nest pairs but to pair like that generation after generation will end with progeny non resistant to breeding defectiveness.

This is mainly aimed at guys who have paired nestmates or bro/sis that done well.

 

What is the percentage of good birds compared to bad (if any) that these pigeons breed say compared to your better unrelated breeders?

I still cant personally see what is wrong with pairing nestmates together, i wonder if someone who has never done it could tell me why they havent?

 

I don't think it 'wrong' but wonder if it is wise? I've tried only one pair of nest mates, and the youngsters didn't make it out of the nest - they were all runts. I've also tried a father to his best daughter and had the same. Zilch.

 

Don't be misled into thinking nest mates share the same genes combinations, they don't (nor do brothers and sisters) and the manner genes are passed on from generation to generation makes the whole breeding a champion thing a it a bit of a lottery, with odds of winning the lottery / breeding a champion much the same.  

 

But inbreeding does seem to heighten the probability of 'physical defects' and it is known to lower the next generation's immune system.

hi all, i leave my racer's pick their own mates and two nestmates have paired together, i have seen good results through pairing this way(smargd birds) but would like to hear other peoples view on pairing this way, do you do it? what's the results ? . thanks

Sometimes racers.... but really for keeping as stock, then quickly out crossing. Then if the out cross isn't suitable.... your back at the bottom with me lol :o ;D ;D ;D

I have replied to your PM which is blackmailing me by incinuating i have falsified the pedigrees for some birds sold last year as i told you in the PM go for it as i know the truth on that one so am happy for it to progress forward - the blackmailing on the other hand , well thats been reported!!!
