tango_kid Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Is it more prestigeous to win a race when there are for instance 90% of the original racer home or when 90% of the racers never made it back?? Mike
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 90 percent not back in my book as youers has to be good
superstar Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Its an honour and achevement to win any race even if you live in a one horse town like caldicot with 2 flyers to race against lol
OLDYELLOW Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 the answer to your question can be yes either way , when only a handfull of birds get home yes these birds are gallant and couragious and have flown there hardest to get home , but on the other hand if more get home and you win then you can say you truely beat the competion rather than in the first instance maybe when few birds return they werent up to the job in hand
tango_kid Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 That was why i was wondering old yellow!!
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 ;D ;D ;DIts an honour and achevement to win any race even if you live in a one horse town like caldicot with 2 flyers to race against lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D aye and beat the likes powel chapple rakes don jones and 5 other nat winners 12 birds home saints on day i had one they never ;D ;D
john@formula 1 lofts Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 You need to no more about the race was it a diaster because of the weather or conditions how far was it from. any race under 450 mile were only 10% is home there must be something serious wrong which puts in doubt the value of the performence of the bird in question in my view. i would want to look at the vel for the day was it the rough vel you would expect on the day or not and the bird in question had it done well before or not. i remember a race years ago in a mid week club i flew in when there was only 1 bird home on the day it was about 2 hours behind when it should have been and on speaking to the fancier whose bird it was he said it is always last bird home normal about 2 hours behind. left me thinking the rest hit bad weather which had cleared by the time this bird got there. did this win make this a good bird of course not like all the other weeks it was the worst bird in the race it just got lucky that day. JMO JOhn
ALF Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Personally i would like all the birds home and to have won the race
superstar Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Ive won them all from the higest to lowest winning vel and cant say one was better than the other. Some races do stand out more than others but not usually cause it was a hard or easy race and not always because of a win. Take pride in whatever you do and always take good care of the birds whatever the result
OLDYELLOW Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 races like Pau when probably less than 10% return they are remarkable pigeons that fly that distance , you couldnt discredit the winners there by low returns
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 ;Dlol you took your time biting no pm every time i go to answer as to birds home when flying nats fanciers put good birds in and only birds that fly win if only few home rest not good enough or as one said to me my bird was carried home ;D ;D ;D
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 races like Pau when probably less than 10% return they are remarkable pigeons that fly that distance , you couldnt discredit the winners there by low returns yep saints is only toss to me 12 home dax big loss.s home pau home thurso not :B :'( :'( :'(
tango_kid Posted October 20, 2008 Author Report Posted October 20, 2008 If so many birds are sent and only a few return it makes you wonder where they go.
peterpau Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Immidiately thought long tough race must be best challenge. I have distance pigeons and my friend has sprinters. Nothing is more entertaining than beating him at middle distance cos this is where it is 50/50 competition.
Lennut Tar Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Is it more prestigeous to win a race when there are for instance 90% of the original racer home or when 90% of the racers never made it back?? Mike Interesting topic etc, & as it has been mentioned here, no one answer to this one, one could say. For me thou :P I will take the last man standing, any time of the day. When one thinks about the many pigeons which are bred in any one year as an example to race, & all those that fall by the wayside, for what ever reason, it just makes those that are still sitting on there perch/box at the end of the season, special !!!!!! & in a class of there own, at least in my view. PS ;D ;D ;D could be wrong thou ;) . Enjoy.
Merlin Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 In answer to the question as asked, is the one that finishes in front of 90% of entrants as opposed to 10% regardless of distance/weather has surely got have more merit.
terry mccarthy Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 some races you just no something went wrong all your best birds are missing u get a bird thats never scored u look at result its a upside down result i call these topsy turvie races i take no notice of these races although nice to win rarther win a good honest race that way nothing can be said like how birds hit something its the bk markers that we have home which is true im afraid
Ronnie Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Dont take anything away from any bird thats got a win under its belt even when the bird is usually at the back it just shows that the race was suited for that bird not that the bird was lucky as some on here would tell you. When i won Niort the first thing i heard was yeah backmarker won it love to know how people make these assumptions when they didnt even clock. The same bird also came 11th middlewich two bird open champion of cheshire(only bird round this way again) the same bird also won the club on two occasions when the so called fast birds got in.Sorry if it sounds like a rant but people are so quick to knock other birds when theres dont or cant put in the supreme effort it takes in bad condition's. A win is a win in any circumstance and on the day that's what you put the bird in a race for.
tango_kid Posted October 21, 2008 Author Report Posted October 21, 2008 Cool. And i bet thoes 'lucky wins' boosted the value of the birs if you ever came to sell it!!
Ronnie Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Haha i would never sell my Birds Tango mate he is only a 07 bird as well and one of his youngsters took a couple of cards this year including 7th open middlewich two bird from east prawle(another hard race with the Birds spread out).I think i may of landed lucky with this one.
