goshawk Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 high whats an average time or speed for a bird to get back say 100miles?
pigeonpete Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 from 100 miles min would be 35 m.p.h in a head wind, upto a max of nearly 80 m.p.h, that some feds were getting near last weekend! of course there could be exceptions, before any 1 quotes me :-)
Guest Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 I would say a good average speed would be 45mph taking into account wind direction etc
OLDYELLOW Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 wonders if this is so can calulate when race birds are passing to exercise a hawk or similar
goshawk Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 I would say a good average speed would be 45mph taking into account wind direction etc and on a race do they keep this speed up over most of the race? yer would have thought it be faster than 35 as a gos flys at that but thats top speed and wont sustain that speed for long.
Guest Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 that is an average speed from A to B at some points could be going faster or slower. When you see a velocity quoted that is the average in yards per minute. i.e distance divided by time taken
Guest Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 wonders if this is so can calulate when race birds are passing to exercise a hawk or similar Ifr he can do that best employ him as a race controller, it may avoid clashing. Not many get line of flight spot on.
just ask me Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 average with no wind from 100 mile i would imagine for me would be 50mph or more
