fletch Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 maybe some large sleepers that reach across to the hard grounds so there is no weight on the boggy ground.
OLDYELLOW Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 dig holes get some big drain pipes and fill holes and pipes with concrete and put loft on stilts and tap till pipes all level youl have to dig down till you find clay otherwise it could sink have same problem at my addrdess hence built three walls front back and middle just need to raise soil level once front drive is done ill get a few tons dropped off

OLDYELLOW Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 suppose quickest way would be to lay flag stones and a damp course and sleepers
Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Your mate has given sound advice Mark. Its either concrete pillars or concrete building blocks and rase it off the ground as high as possible, otherwise you may be like Noah come the winter. Best to do it right first time, rather than have to take it down and make good. JMO
mark proctor Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 thanks for the advice lads..im crapping my self now....one good thing theres a builders yard right opperset me if i need any slabs or oat....cheers lads mark.. ;) ;)

Roland Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Like Quicksand / Silo's the only quick way is to lay planks / sheeting etc. Anything that covers an area.... the lager the area the better.... But one must bear in mind the elements and 'Rotting. Good luck.... where you located?
Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Mark i assume you would be putting loft on pillars of blocks with timber runners? If so just dig into the ground and sink an extra block or two into it.

Guest asha Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Hi Mark, just put 2x2 slabs at bottom of yoursupports,if and when they sink a bit ,just use a car jack to lift up ,then compensate height.,later on when you got time ,just put a flexable land drain400mm down, conect into nearest inspection chamber/manhole,this will help your high water table, which if not addressed, will cause big problems of damp air coming in through bottom vents, ect.

Yep, and I say that a footing of gravel is the best drainage you will get - over a spread of course. And slabs would go nicely on top of gravel too.
blaz Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 mind and put a water proof membrane between loft and sleepers or blocks and loft it will stop any dampness traveling up to loft .
Guest Owen Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 I would mount the loft on sleepers and I would place paving slabs under the sleepers to level them up. Then when the time allows, you can put a 4" drainage pipe into a trench. The drainage pipe would take the water either to a soakaway or to the edge of your property and away. The last thing you want is a damp pigeon loft. You would never keep them healthy. And you should make sure that the loft is built with a good gap under it, because you will enevitably get rats or mice sometime. If it is too close to the ground the rats will have no trouble getting in and you would have trouble getting a terrier or ferret under the loft to flush them out. Besides, the space under a loft lends itself to a useful storage area to keep things tidy.
