Peckedhen Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Three years ago and loving them!! I started with a dovecote in the garden then realised that I needed a loft if I wanted to control the birds. My first loft lasted about three months before I realised it was too small, I got a larger one but really could do with another now!! :

Mark Palmer Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I am a fourth generation pigeon fancier. I have a photograph of my great grandfather with a pigeon sitting on his lap from the 1890's. My own dad, Bill, got the pigeon bug from his father Tom Palmer of Sheldon, Birmingham and likewise I was introduced to pigeons whilst in the cradle. My father started his own loft at his own first house in 1964 and the lofts still stand there today in Hamstead, Birmingham (though now the third main loft in 44 years). My dad started racing in 1964 as W. Palmer, and in 1967 took my mother Sheila on as a racing partner flying as Mr & Mrs W. Palmer, and they were one of the first to race as a Mr & Mrs partnership. My name was eventually added to the partnership in 1973 and ever since we have raced as Mr & Mrs W. Palmer & son. I was therefore officially 11½ years old when I started racing, but by then was an old hand !!!!! MARK PALMER.

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 about 12years old a family moved into the house next door and i helped him build the loft and when the birds were moved in I got my own scrapper for the loft and then my own birds in the rabbit hutch i had. always remember her she was a red chequer and i called her olga for some reason. Then I got a set of keys for the loft and it was up2 me to look after them when he was on holiday. Took a couple of years off when he gave them up and then started on my own and bought the house and loft came with it when he moved. Never looked back
Fife_pigeon_wife Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 but the bug finally bit my hubby had them for years and at first i wouldnt go near them, then i started going in and out the hut when he was at work just watching them , then went in when he was there and started asking questions, then the bug bit me. i think there amazing
Guest Denny Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 44 and it was the death of my Grandma in September last year who sparked the interest in them (yeah I know its a weird thing to spark an interest!) and bought them myself with my hard earned bonus from work from Peckedhen.
