fletch Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Have had a good bird wich has had multiple prizes, club and federation level returned from the first race today, he looks ok as someone has cared for him, as he has had a broken leg and had a good bang, which looked like they have nearly healed, I am more than greatful that he has been looked after and has returned, but why was this bird not reported to us by whoever has had him.

fletch Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 because half of the birds that get reported the owners dont wanna know ,hence the rest of us that do care get tarred with the same brush!..its sad but a fact. i have reported 3 young bords in the last week and every one of them all said 'do you want to keep them', my answer was no. only 1 person came to collect the other 2 were taken to there areas by the driver from work and liberated to get home, both got home.
Guest Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I have to agree there Strapper, i had a non fancier ring me the other day, quite distressed as she had rported the bird she had found to the owner who promptly told her to "neck it". I cared for it for two days but sadly it died

Roland Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Had the Vets phone me to say a pigeon that they had caught and released was not good. It was a y/b bird. Said it had flown upon the adjacent roof :-/ :o Said it would clear but they were so concerned I did the 'Right Thing' and went and looked.... it had cleared and they were very red faced and appoligetic :B
BANDIT Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I HOPE YOUR BIRD BREEDS YOU MANY WINNERS IN THE FUTURE.
Guest IB Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Haven't had many cases, but I admit that I do not contact the owner until I know the bird is in a fit condition to travel. Think it was last year that a Welsh hen dropped in on me with a partially healed wound in her side. I was positive that I could see her innards through her skin, so she basically went into a spare box till I was happy that she was on the mend and could be handled safely. When I thought she was recovered enough (out flying, thought she was trying to clear for home) I reported her, and her owner on North Wales coast was delighted to get her back, think she'd been lost at the first race that year, can't imagine how she got up here to Central Scotland with that injury. Have been on the receiving end too, a few years ago a hen arrived back weeks after a race with an obvious old wing injury which had been attended by someone, who had either brought her down the road a bit or allowed her to clear for home herself.
BK ROCKETS Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 cant tar every fancier with the same brush but would be interesting to nknow who the fancier was that was sokeen for a non fancier to neck the stray ????????????? and we should'nt be put off contacting the owners of birds that we get in because of the few.

Maybe a bit cynical but if he's a good bird and a multiple prize winner then maybe the finder kept him to sort out a few hens, it has been known so I'm told. :-/
Guest numpty01 Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 good birds given time will go home ???most of you realise this when its transfered into youer name myself i just say nope i wont dispose of it it can stay and if it goes it goes one hen i had had 6 channel scores but owner would not send for it he said she will come will you just feed water till she right she was in and out everyday and one sat morning was hanging on front loft wanting out she cleared straight off next morning phone call hit his loft 8oclock flying over 300miles on her own

Guest Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 that is disgusting, that fancier needs reporting to there union and suspendwed from racing, that *expletive removed* has just ruined the reputation of the rest of us decent fanciers Unfortunately, this kind of fancier doesn't give a $hit about public opinion. This sport can well do without the likes of them. They are the self centred, self opinionated to$$ers that unfortunately we have within the sport, who wouldn't even pi$$ on their granny if she was going up in flames. I wouldn't suspend then, they need wiping out of the sport for good. On behalf of all good fanciers I apologise to any member of public who gets this response after reporting one of our birds.
Roland Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 Vic... in reply to Have had a good bird wich has had multiple prizes, club and federation level returned from the first race today, he looks ok as someone has cared for him, as he has had a broken leg and had a good bang, which looked like they have nearly healed, I am more than greatful that he has been looked after and has returned, but why was this bird not reported to us by whoever has had him. I was stating that even Vets have very little savvy! as it was off colour, one would have thought the Vet would have retained it! Then contacted me. Knew better that to just let it go. Further at least watered it! Apparently what worried them - would you adam and eve it - was it's eyes were blinking fairly regular. Lack of water :-/ But at least if concerned enough to phone me, they could have kept it for me to collect. I've collected many as an 'Animal Rescue' member .... no longer am, but the Vets and Police still have my number to phone....
