johnny11 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Apart from A dog what are the best cat deterrants that work Thanks John
the pigeon_milker Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 if ya got the money you can use a PIR water gun or a bottle of water stood up but i dont know if that works i use a brick
the pigeon_milker Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 dogs dont always work a few weeks ago a cat came to are loft so he let the grey hound lose and it ran in the loft and kill two pigeons while the cat run off
Guest IB Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Another cat, they are territorial, or ultrasonic deterrant - watch the range /area covered, and as a last resort (still to try it) an electric fence.
superstar Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Well I have just been told "Mothballs" are something cats cant stand so will be trying them out as the 4 cats my neighbour has are a pain in the grass, S**T everywhere, let alone the terror the birds suffer from the pesky things!
frank-123 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 just had cat enter my loft and kill a bird it came back and took the carcass i watch it jump in the trap then back out again once they kill they will never give me peace so i have to get rid of it
retired Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 my Jack Russle works a treat Alan my greyhound use to, it sorted every cat since its been gone and i have had to rely on my staffy they have come back. We have a cat that seems like a good un and has marked our garden as part of its territory however failing that we have a fantastic box trap for them
Guest Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Back in Merthyr in 1971 as a 19 year old club sec who knew nothing about pigeons (and before anyone jumps in, still doesn't!) I went to George Dunne in Cefn to plot his loft, I was flabergasted to see a cat sleeping in the loft with his pigeons, with the sliding doors open and the birds calmly on the perch or walkig around it. George told me he never had any cat trouble. The only draw back I can see to this is that the birds may tink all cats are ok? Or are they clever enough to know that the rest are dangerous!!??
grizzle_hen Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 cats arent supposed to like pepper or orange or jeyes fluid, so you could try putting some jeyes fluid around your garden, or have a water spray with pepper and orange in it (just water doesn't work!)

DJ Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 ive got my own cat which was here b4 the pigeons arrived and he doesnt show any interest in them apart from the occasional glance he even walks past them while they are pecking around in my garden but i wouldnt go as far as to leave him unattended with them :-/ the good thing is that he chases all cats away leaving my pigeons in peace debbie
Guest pigeon82 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 ive heard that male cats can be quite dominant in keeping others away but to me surely the females would br attracted
