Guest strapper Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 i am finding it very intersting i keep show birds but the more i read the more i want to race. how long dose it take a pigeon to race from dover to manchester sorry but what does france have to do with dover to manchester? it can take several different times as the wind direction will decide how long. if the wind is coming from the north then the time will be considerably slower. i dont know the average speed/time it takes but im sure someone will know.
rabbit226 Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 sorry dover dose not have much to do with france apart from the crossing well lets say saint-omer to manchester
grizzal Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 no wind the birds would average 40- 45 mph

Guest Owen Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Why don't you go and ask a local pigeon flyer? He will be able to explain better than we can on here.
Guest bakes Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 say if there was an race from dover you will have your normal clubs that make up an federation the transporter comes round to each club pic the birds up putting crates into the crate slots and go to the other clubs taken empty crates out and putting crates with birds back on wonce all the clubs have been picked up the transporter driver will drive down to the liberation site wonce he is there he will water the birds and go get some sleep the next morning he will get up make sure all the pigeon are ticking over dandy wonce they are happy everythings ok he will get in contact with the club secs asking what the weather like wonce thats all checked he will cut the seals on the crates this is when the transporter starts buzzing as the birds no somethink going on wonce they all happy with that when all seals have been cut and the weather good they will pull the hadle which will all in turn drop the crate doors once the birds have libbed he will go around checking the crates making shore all the pigeons are out then he will shut the crates up and be on his way back basic layout what goes on from getting picked up from basketing to getting libbed to flying back home wonce the pigeons arrive back home they iver get scanned in via ets electric timing system or via the fancier taking the rubber of the piigeon to put over a small plastic item thats called an thimble you drop the rubber which is now on the thimble into your clock and strike down on the lever this will time your pigeon you do this for the rest that come in some people only time in there first 2 birds after they have done that and everythink has been sorted out you take your clock back up to the club which then the club will do a print out it will show the time on the wing the velocity of the pigeon the ring number of the pigeon distance from lib site to loft and the owner name or partnershp name the bird with the best velocity is the winner hope this helps what you wonted to no all the best k.baker

peterpau Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 Getting good info is like pulling hens teeth but this aint a bad place to start. Pigeon health and management by Dr Colin Walker. Long distance pigeon racing by John Clements. Without the first book me thinks I'd be still looking for my first 600 miler let alone 750 miler
