REDCHEQHEN Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 I believe the vaccine is not approved in this country
jakjak Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Would be interesting to find out if it is legal to use in this country??
Jeremy Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Colombovac® range of vaccines has proven its safety and efficacy and is well known and much appreciated by pigeons’ owners. This vaccine range allows protection against Paramyxovirus (Newcastle’s disease), Poxvirus Paratyphus (Salmonella Typhimurium) Go onto the Forte dodge web site which makes Colombovac its a dead vaccine and is legal in the UK if you go through a Vet. David Parsons the vet in Wincanton is 1 to try... Hope this helps...
Guest Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 As far as I can find out, only two Colombovac products are authorised for use in UK and these are the PMV vaccine, and the PMV and Pox dual vaccine. http://www.vmd.gov.uk/ProductInfo/AuthMed/categories.htm
Jeremy Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Hi Bruno I have just spoken to Forte Dodge and the Company Hyperdug or Pigeon pharmacy in the BHW have put an order in for the Paratyphus vaccine. They said they have a licence to sell it once the order comes in from Holland it will be advertised in the BHW. I have been told if a company has the right licence then it is legal to be sold within the UK..
Guest Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Thanks Jeremy; there's been lots of enquiries on the site over the years about paratyphoid vaccine and I have often wondered why I had never seen it advertised in UK. Good to know the company are going to supply here and that fanciers who want it now have a legit source.

Not that I would use the vaccine - but well done Jeremy - making the company aware - as in jakjak's post - I know of people who have used paratyphoid vaccine - whose results have suffered since using it - so be aware of that ( the vaccine however may not have been stored under the right conditions prior to purchase or in transit)
Guest Paulo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Hi Bruno I have just spoken to Forte Dodge and the Company Hyperdug or Pigeon pharmacy in the BHW have put an order in for the Paratyphus vaccine. They said they have a licence to sell it once the order comes in from Holland it will be advertised in the BHW. I have been told if a company has the right licence then it is legal to be sold within the UK.. Thanks Jeremy. Quote from East to West book:- "Once separated I vaccinate all race birds and their mates against paratyphoid using either the "one dose" live vaccine you can obtain from Chevita via the internet or the "two dose'' dead vaccine available from Colombovac. I have done this for 7 years now and believe it is the single most important thing in the pigeon health calender and certainly leaves the birds a lot stronger and leaves the birds a lot stronger and leaves the fanciers with one less infection to worry about. I know many UK champions carry out this very important annuall vaccination and few if any will tell you about it.'' So will vaccinating against paratyphoid protect against e-coli or sammella or they totally different. At the end of the YB season my birds performance tailed off partly due to not being on the dark but I'm sure they had a touch of samella so going to use kiln dried sand in furture and make sure its changed every two weeks instead of just been riddled out every day and they changed once a month. They just got over it on their own had none loose weight or die but some of their droppings had a greenish tinge and althrough their feathers were glossy something seemed to be off with their times on race day. I have had beaverdam birds before in the loft last year when I brought some from a latebred sale and they all died apart from one who is in the stock loft. Steve off here looked at them when they were sick and he thought they had res disease treated with entril and one bird recovered the rest died. Don't think they brought paratypoid in the loft as they ddin't have swaggers or neck twisting but wondering if mild paratypoid if thats possible is what my YB team had picked up? Might just send some droppings away and get a health check before the start of next season to see if there is some latient underlying illness. The birds have all been flying good through and I had a hawk attack three days before the last race I sent so suppose this could have affected the birds results as some got quite a fright
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 E-coli is diffeent - paratyphoid is the same as salmonella think neck twisting and swaggers is paramoxyvirus give your birds a good probiotic - keep the gut healthy ( competitive exclusion I think they call it : ) emtryl treats canker (not respiratory - but your spelling's not too good if thats what you used, entril? : )
Guest Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 The 'voluntary' requirement to Vaccinate must surely depend on disease prevalence. How common is paratyphoid in the UK? Also there is enough data out there questioning the need for annual vaccination of any animal without adding yet another and possibly unnecessary jab?
W.D. Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Chevita do a live vaccine for paratyphoid, got some from Murray and Mills earlier on this year. There is a proper way to use it,1st of all give the birds Parastop or baytril for 14 days at half dose rate, then vaccinate after this.If you dont want to do this you might find that the birds seem to suffer following the vaccination. Steve Patrick mentioned how you do it in his articles in the pigeon press.

The best thing is to get bird post-mortemed or droppings checked
