edwards Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 thats a fact we have a perfect example at home our 9 year old cock topper in his 5 year racing carreer he topped 6 feds the least birdage was two thousand plus his being with 8 different hens and his children are still at the race point or maybe walking home id say honestly you have a 70 percent chance of a bird that raced well will produce well has for us but then again you have our example.
DAVIDL Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 unless the pairs are in individual compartments parentage cannot be guaranteed, the pedigree is only as honest as the man who wrote it as fanciers can easily say a yb is off a certain winner and it could be off the worst bird in his loft.....you can write any ring number you want...... :-/
PATTY BHOY Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 the pedigree`s in your thoughts and how the bird looks and handles.
Guest Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 The problem with buying from a stud is they are in business to make money. I dont care what you say, if you order a kit of birds of a particular breed and the stud dont have any available they are not going to say to you 'sorry we dont have them' you'll get what ever birds are available and will be told thats the breed you ordered, They want to breed and sell as many birds as they can thats there business. Thats the reason i would never ever buy birds from a stud. Find a very successful fancier with one family of birds and get to now the fancier well, then purchase from him. I know if you buy from Jos Thone you get DNA records of the birds which i think is the only way to be 100% sure that they are out of what they say they are. But as owen said nothing is guaranteed, great racers dont always make good breeders. I'm lucky I don't have to buy from studs not that I would certainly none of the bigger ones, not a chance, and yes of course there are those that are out to fleece you for all they can and I mention no names. We can't tar with the same brush though because I know some top breeder men who as much as they like the glisten of the coin they would not compromise their integrity for love nor money. I'll stick to the basket as my pedigree marker.
wince24 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 I don't usually look for pedigrees in buying birds....I let my eyes and hands decide, I f a pigeon realy catches my eye I would definitely buy it even without pedigree, most fanciers here in the Philippines are obssesed with pedigrees, birds with papers fetch a higher price...
Guest strapper Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 i have 11 direct frank and ann taskers best and would not question the pedigrees for one minute,a gentleman in the game. but there are numerous that will put pen to paper to sell whats on view....i myself could never do that simply because i wouldnt want it done to me! anything that i sell and bred myself will be what it says on the paper. ive already bred some to sell on later on to pay for the outlay ive spent this year...i dont sell all through the year ...only enough to make it cheaper for me to race. i have done m8s a favour by selling their birds(two recently packed in) but i do stess to them that everything must be in order.
chickadee Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 "Is a pedigree worth anything?" yes to the seller
nagid Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 spot on hotrod never said a truer word.as soon as money is involved thats when lies are told.good friends part with good birds hoping you get a good turn
Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 personally i dont think a pedigree is worth the price of the paper it is written on a pedigree dosent win races the bird does and some greedy breeders will charge extra for a pedigree the boys who bought there birds from louella most probably got pedigrees with there birds and were not as they thought

I think its time major breeders who sell from pedigrees should be forced to register with an independantly run blood bank for DNA. JMO.

JMO. thats a sure way of making sure its the bird from the right lines but it would also push up the price of the pigeons
pjc Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 if you were spending serious money on a bird and the breeder refused a DNA you'd have to ask yourself why!
Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 if you were spending serious money on a bird and the breeder refused a DNA you'd have to ask yourself why! but a pedigree is not just from 2 birds so every bird on that pedigree would have to be dna tested and registered which could be very costly
Guest numpty01 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 phil you know as well as i do ?as we have been around long enough the only one garanteeing dna is josethorne the rest are just playing with breeding and would not give dna full stop 14000quid for vandabeels did not give proof of perantage yet if allowed would have proved false

pjc Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 if you are buying direct from the tree, the tree's DNA would be good enough for me!
Guest numpty01 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 has josethorne got a website i would think so try googling
black badge Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 The only thing a pedigree is good for is making a paper plane, it will never win you races. the pigeon you are buying can be bred off anything, anyone can write out a pedigree.
pjc Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 why do you think i'm building a family around them!
Guest numpty01 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 why do you think i'm building a family around them!to share with me ;)
blaz Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 the best birds you will ever get is off friends, then you can be sure of what their off if pedigree is written by a good honest fancier is worth a bit. the best birds i get are from friends . a few weeks back i got a matched pair of frank sheeder i think thats his name from a friend who paid a good few bob buying them in.best bird i have was a gift from the late george logan .my most consistent pigeon i have raced again from a friend. if jock3 has a son of the de barcelona bird i can see him getting added to my friends list ;D ;D ;D.
