Guest Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Can anyone please tell me what the best broad spectrum antibiotic for pigeon is? Cheers what do you need it for :-/
jimmy white Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 baytrill [allought a good broad spectrum, antibiotic,] should never be used without a top avian vets advice, treating willy nilly will only cause more problems
Wiley Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 best broadspectrum is Cosumix Plus, alot less harsher to the immune system then baytril
Guest IB Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 More important than knowing the antibiotic is first knowing what you are treating for. If you are still unsure, then consult a good avian vet. Baytril has been mentioned - it's what is known as prescription only (POM) - and you'd need to take the bird(s) to the vet before you get prescribed it anyway. The other bit is that a good vet would do a further test using several antibiotics on the 'disease' organism to find out which is the right one to treat this bird's particular condition.
PigeonDesigner Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I met a vet in Belgium a while back while out there with my Dad and the vet advised that you should stay away from antibiotics as much as possible as it eventually lowers the birds immune system. Go herbal when possible.
peterpau Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Why would you want to use a presciption only medication without seeking a vets advice. Not the way to go me thinks.
hotrod Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 baytrill [allought a good broad spectrum, antibiotic,] should never be used without a top avian vets advice, treating willy nilly will only cause more problems jimmy i was only answering the post , im definately not advising anyone to use antibiotics.
Guest j.bamling Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Amoxicillin is another good broad spec but it all depends on what you have Id sooner find out what you had that way its easier to treat !! And dont just treat for treatings sake !!!
Guest Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 for what a test cost its not worth blind treating.it will cost you more in the long run. :'( :'(
Guest IB Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 The other bit is that a good vet would do a further test using several antibiotics on the 'disease' organism to find out which is the right one to treat this bird's particular condition. I thought this video had been posted before? It shows the test being carried out using 7 different antibiotic pellets on the same bacteria. And the bigger the circle killed, the more susceptible the bacteria is to that antibiotic. Click on Antibiogram button: http://www.tgw1916.net/movies.html
terry mccarthy Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 best i have found and used is tromexin
