Guest IB Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Not all yeasts are bad, in humans at least they are a beneficial part of the the normal gut. Only pathogenic yeasts I know are candida and aspergillus (spelling). Would be unable to identify either (or any) of them under a microscope. Agree with comment, best left to specialist that knows what he/she is seeing, and knows what should / shouldn't be there. Owen, if you can help others keep pathogenic yeasts at bay, that's what this forum is all about.
Guest IB Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I should have added that I have posted on at least 3 occasions an article Tony C uncovered on one of the poultry websites: that garlic (Illicin) 2% to 5% was found more effective at killing candida than nystatin.
ribble Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 blackdog thanks for that. Do you think that 20:00 would be enough? I had decided to tell all but after your helpful suggestion I think I will hold back. I don't blame you Owen.
harky Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I was told by a fancier i met on holiday that the only way to get rid o yeast was to add a soup spoonful of milton fluid to a litre of water and change there water three times a day. you had to do this for 3 consecutive days

harky Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Harky I thinkyou would be doing a lot of damage to your birds with that levelof dosage, have you tried it? yes and it seemed to have done them no harm at all

chris vasey Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Why in heavens name would you want that stuff. It is suposed to be a treatment for yeast infection and it was designed for humans. If you have yeast there are better ways to treat it than with nystatin. Besides, it takes weeks to actually work. all medicines were designed for humans and nystatin does treat yeasts in the pigeons crop and it works instantly dosage is 20ml per kilo of corn and should be fed damp nothing is as good or as cheap

Bugsy Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Chris Vasey has it absolutely bang on, there is a preferred method of treating with nystatin and that is on a light feed(professional advice), also seems to me that we have a lot of budding vets among us !!!!!! Leave the recommendation of treatments to the professionals, leave the drugs in Spain or any other foreign country where they can be bought over the counter, treat when needed and only when neccesary and believe me this helps you on the quickest way to the top.
