What a  rip off that is..!! Best part of 9 quid.. Got fifty perches in my yb section.. two sprays of just the perches and it was done..!!

Does anyone know if the old bottles of Duramitex that you mix up yourself is still available..?? Or maybe an alternative..?

The old style Duramitex contained the insecticide Malathion.

This was also used as a garden insecticide.

As far as I am aware this substance is no longer available much the same as many really useful products.

Yeah this year has been terrible! So many different products have been taken off the market because of EU laws :/

As some of you may know we also have a horticultural divison which has suffered massive withdrawels on loads of chemicals so it's happening to everything!

The old Duramitex was took off the market as it contained a dangerous substance I know from 1st hand experiance as it put me and a friend in hospital with muscular problems & pain  ;D because we did the same as most when spaying out which was to not wear a mask  ;D anyway my friend phoned michel binns up (Duramitex) apparantly the substance was a kind of nerve agent which the same was used during the 2nd world war  :P

EU regulations.. To bring out new chemicals it costs hundereds of thousands to pass it through all the regulations which is why nothing new seems to be replacing things that have been withdrawn to come extent.

Harka-Mitex was released just over a week ago I think, not heard many comments about it yet.. Anyone used it?

There is a wealth of information on Malathion on the internet.

It is thought to have low human toxicity.

There also seem to be suppliers available although most are based in China.

I would suggest buying it may not be worth the bother and potential health risk.

Was very surprised that organophosphates were still being used in pigeons 40 years after most of them were withdrawn back in 1960's, all sorts of reasons, but all were because of known adverse affects on humans. Also if you use an insecticide for that long, the target is bound to build up an immunity against it, and that appears to have happened in red mite too.

As post says, organophosphates interefere with the nervous system. The new duramitex appears to be a safer product.
