BLUESTORM
My tip (for what its worth), When weaning young birds about 24 to 27 days give them 1/2 a canker pill, I do and i have had no problems with canker.
ch pied
There was a post on here about treating for canker a long time ago and it basically said there were about 8 identified strains with most being harmless and a couple being fatal about 90% of the time to birds that were previously unexposed most birds lived through the lesser strains and these that were later exposed to the more toxic forms were affected less with very few deaths Using this info I quit treating for canker about 3 years ago and have had no visible problems with it,, I do treat my race team about 1/2 way through season but not breeders, bicarb soda alters PH and probably VERY little else ( it is used to alter the PH in swimming pools ) and guess what else I do..... Cider Vinegar which as we all know alters the PH in the blood my guess canker probably has a real low tolerance for ph changes I dont know just my guess got something there slug , in regards PH and cider vinegar , good post

Guest geordiejen
canker is a protozoa and usually contaminates the drinkers.it can only live outside its host for 2-3 mins.canker is spread more easily if birds all eat at the same time and then rush to the drinkers straight after feeding.not too sure about the use of cider vinegar or raising the ph in the drinkers will make any difference but maybe someone could clear that question up?
