Hi all

A while back i posted about the amount of Tapeworms that came out of

my birds when i treated them!

After the 1st treatment i followed up 14 days later and now this week

i again found eggs in my birds droppings.(the eggs look like SMALL

MILLET SEEDS) which i see with the naked eye in theire droppings,

which stil is firm and looks healthy.

3 Races past and i am late!

Some guys says its MALARIA, others say that my birds might be to

HEAVY, which i dont think is the case, could it be the TAPEWORMS ???

What is the best anthelmintic what i should use to get rid of these

worms?

I have not done this, how do i burn out the loft?

get yourself a blow torch but be careful, better than any sprays plus it makes your floor bone dry. ;)

Strange how we differ in our opinions. I personally would not waste my time with a blow torch. By the time you have played it onto a wooden floor, which is cold, the heat generated is not enough to do any good. On the other hand, if you play it on the wooden floor long enough to kill the parasites, you will scorch the floor. It is much better to use a viracidal distinfectant. Do it on a suuny day and let the sun dry the floor. Sunshine is one of the best cleansers there is. Follow this up with a absorbant floor dressing and you will be OK.

Versa Laga do a really good one. Nothing will survive. Of course you will need to clean the drinkers and feeders properly and check the birds by having a droppings and swab test.

Likely that the source of the infection isn't in the loft itself; the eggs on the loft floor are probably non-infective, they usually need to go through another stage in an intermediate host, like an insect or a snail, which in turn needs to be eaten by your birds. You need to find out the type of tapeworm your birds are being infected with, and its intermediate host. When you know the source of the infection, you can cure it - for good - all you are doing is cleaning out the birds, till they again eat 'X' and become re-infected.
