Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Agreed. they love the smell / taste of Peanuts. Also the sweet taste of anti freeze. There was a company I posted uphere that also did a 'Smaell' this really lured them. Electrcute or trap or to poison. Good luck. I get mice from time to time of course. Every one has one or the other.... many just don't realise it. Mice means no rats.... Rats eat mice so they don't stay around rats too long. can i just point out that the saying about if there are rats there are no mice is a fishwifes tale as the last of the pictures I posted we also got a mouse the same night so there are rats and mice together
gorsy bank lofts Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 if them fens are not pickin them up but going off they need to be in tunnels. make some out of ply just a bit wider than the trap when set and 1" higher than the trap when its sprung, chances are if they are not in tunnels they can throw the prey clear as it closes. setting them in tunnels prevents this as well as preventing other things inc pigeons getting in them. rats are cautious of new things so may take a day or two to get used to them, place them on natural runs or along the side of shed they wont be able to resist them. never had cause to bait these traps you may just be enticing more. normal house bricks make good tunnels , place 6 on edge in rows opposite each other 3 either side then 6 more on top width ways. i will send you some pics of mine (when i get chance)that are always set dont have many rats about but birds near stables so get odd one especially when they have cut the corn, regards lyndon

jimmy_bulger Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 i had this prob a few years ago as did the neighbours ,so they all got CATS which made it worse. i went to RENTOKILL for the rat poison. i found there stuff was spot on because when the rats was woblin in the street (dieing) the 13 cats ate em then the rats died and so did the poor cats.
paul10121968 Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 do you want to borrow the wife she will nag them away. :X ;D

pjc Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 The biggest problem is that to many of you put your lofts on the or low to the ground! If you keep the lofts a min of 12" off the ground there is nowhere under the lofts for the rats to live or breed! If you have dogs or cats, keep the loft high enough for them to get under, problem solved!

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 hi have you not tried the glue pads yet there very good you will catch them very quick Just to say they are not bothering the birds anymore and there cant be many left as the traps are all over the place so we are quite happy the way it's going just now. Will keep you all posted on what happens
weecunny Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 the best way a found was to keep chaNGING the poisons mate and give them plenty out side the loft so they no need to enter the loft
Roland Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Well you will have to raise 3 feet of the ground. Then glue panes of glass on the legs or whatever. Also sheet glass it underneather. Can't gnaw, or climb glass.

THE FIFER Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 yes the photo with the dark grey small one is a young rat, those rats look well fed from somewhere :-/
BIGK Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Its the Ethylene Glycol in the anti-freeze thats poisons them and they may have changed that constituant as it is highly poisonous
