Wiley Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 well if my shed is dry why use it! If it is damp then id use it!

mac1 Posted December 30, 2006 Author Report Posted December 30, 2006 i use floor white aswell but i like the blow torch for cob webs and bugs
THE FIFER Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 if ure birds are out i sometimes use the old house fly spray, in corners etc u should see the flies and moths coming out and spyders,it shifts them ok
Guest Silverwings Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 all the loft floors are covered with Filon easy to scrape or mop out with disinfectant, boxes all have 1/2 inch mesh plastic floor grills , used the burner about 12 years ago not since the grills .....ray
blue bar Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 i have also used blow torch good for killing the flys as well. 8) 8)
stevie Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 I USE A BLOW TORCH IN THE WINTER A LOT WHEN RACING 1DAY A WEEK
Guest Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 ;D i use the blowtorch as & when , especially in yb loft , perches and floors , my lofts are painted inside with household emulsion , no effect on paintwork yet , only allow flames to lick over painted areas ! hope this helps you Mac . andy 8)
pigeonscout Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 I use a blow torch once per week it kills canker & coccidiosis eggs, etc., and helps birds from getting re infected. Prevention is better than cure.
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 yes in my view a blow torch should always be handy but dont be to severe as they can kill good bugs as well as bad ones just a sweep over the perches and floor is sufficient remember FRIED EGGS WONT HATCH
stevebelbin Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I use heavy chippings on the floor so it would be impossible for me to blowtorch mine unless I renewed the chippings every week!! I do disinfect the loft B4 pairing and also b4 racing - then once a month during racing when I renew the chippings.
Roland Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Well this last season start ( like now ....) twice soaked with bleach, then twice blow torched, the painted throughly 3 times... Will do the same to be finished before mating up. Yes I either use white, but mostly lime in corners and under paper in grills. One spot - this season Pour on of course. Hada bad case of sommat year before last ... took the 15 months to get better. Hence why I haven't and won't breed from them.
johnny11 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Do not really wish to put a downer on things on this thread. last year a paper came out of Belgium which compared isolates from pigeon lofts where fanciers blow torched their lofts. To cut a long story short they concluded that in order to use this to eliminate the bugs you would have to do so thorough as after the initial flaming they still where able to isolate coccidia and worm. If you are intent on doing this you have to be so thorough
Guest Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 before you uae a blow torch on your floor u first have to dampen the floor slightly all over ,personally i do this with very cheap bleach ,the idea is that anything that is in the wood will come to the surface to the damp area and is then zapt by the blow torch thats what i learned a long time ago and have been using a blow torch for years hence i dont worm or treat for cocci.
Ian Gill Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 I use a blow torch everyday and its the best money you can spend in this game ..My mate cracks up every time he sees my loft because I tend to get carried away and sometimes burn the floor but Id rather have a dry loft than sick pigeons
ACE LOFTS Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 we always scrap, burn, then floor white the floor and perches, every day. but in the winter and when moulting we use deep litter, just last week we picked up the deep liter and back to the same routine.
