Guest Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 Have you put anything new in the loft recently?,just wondered if they are allergic to something.Lots of things like garlic, cider vinegar or even TCP in the water could help.I know at this time of year the moult creates alot more dust and bloom to be in the air.
matt Posted September 2, 2007 Author Report Posted September 2, 2007 no nothing new ihave tried the stuff you mentioned but nothing seems to be shifting it
Guest Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 Just had a quick look in 1 of my vet books and although this problem could be any one of a dozen things found abit about nasal mites, matches your symptoms, treatment ivomectin.
klinkley Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 no nothing new ihave tried the stuff you mentioned but nothing seems to be shifting it Personally, I would take one of the birds to a good avian vet and let he/she help

Guest shadow Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 hi im having a bit trouble with sneezing birds scratching there wattle and hearing a bit wetness any one recomend something good cheers matt check your ventilation
Guest Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 sounds like upper resp problem I agree that that is what it sounds like, but would like more info on the symptoms, e.g. eyes clear or watery, feathers blown - does the head appear swollen around the ears [sinus] etc, or a pic of one of the birds put up. Think you've got to isolate the ones showing symptoms, and put a water sanitiser in the drinking water to stop cross infection at least via water route as sneezing spreads it too .. airborne route. Need to have a look at your loft ventilation and number of birds you have in the loft.
matt Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 thanks everyone was talking to someone and we got it down to ventilation birds have a cold have fixed the problem today and birds are being treated. cheers matt

Guest Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Used Olbas oil during this season after race birds had come thro 100 miles of rain. Not sure about direct application on bird tho, I used it much the same way as humans do, a few drops on strips of kitchen roll and crumpled these between bars of nest box fronts and mesh of section walls.
