have noticed that a couple of my yearlings have developed bald patches on their chests (see pics) which have become worse over the last couple of weeks  the mealy pied also has some slight yellowish scabbing arond the beak   any advice would be great on what it may be and what to treat it with     kev :-/

what type of feeders and drinkers are you using?

if it is multiple birds they are probably cutting the feathers on a sharp edge or if its only 1 or 2 birds it could be feather rot.

could be the feeders or drinkers, or if they are feeding while sitting in the nestbowls. but if there are bald bits elsewhere i would say feather rot, or something,

looks similar  symptoms from  depluming mite ?

Tend to agree with Silverwings as I experienced the same problem earlier this year with a few cocks and after dipping them the chest feathers grew back after a few weeks.

my drinkers are the 4 pint grey plastic type and the feeders are the old type metal ones which ive had for a couple of years now without any trouble   isnt duramitex sprayed onto inside of loft only or can it be used on birds in a weaker solution as a dip :-/     if it is depluming mite will i need something specific?  maybe something like a head lice treatment from the chemists would work ?  thanks for the help   kev

Like everything in pigeons seems to be different things behind the problem, got to know what that is before you can treat it properly.

No expert, just fair memory from the number of threads put up here on the subject. Causes vary from quill mite, depluming mite, rubbing on feeders and drinkers, to a fungus (feather rot is either a mite or a fungus).

Not all but some of threads on these:-

To me, the most worrying problem is the yellow scabbing around the birds beak. Have not seen Pigeon Pox personally, perhaps someone who has would care to comment on this scabbing perhaps being pox in its early stage?
