Hi all, Im having trouble getting my stock birds to lay eggs. They have all been paired up for a gd time, although never previosly lay eggs together. I cant understand why this is happening, could the loft be too cold? Its really frustrating as after i lost alot of old cocks last season ive decided to concentrate on the young birds this season and will not really be racing the old uns due to lack of numbers. I normally rare between 20 and 30 youngbirds but i had planned to rare more this season, i know there is still plenty of time to rare birds but i had planned to get all the birds down at the same time in order to get 2 or 3 pairs from the birds. I have considered buying youngsters but as i my loft is run on a shoe strin budget this is unlikely to happen.Would moving some of the birds into a diffrent section help or would this disrupt them even more?

Any help would be great. Cheers

Im just nervous that i wont be able to get the numbers together at the right time i suppose. If i was racing my old birds aswell id spend more time concentrating on them, but i really want to have a gd season with the youngsters as last season was very hard to take as i lost alot of good birds.

Check that the hens are not fat as this will halt the laying process i dont think that the weather has anything to do with it ,try firing  them up with some small seed, and check that they have nothing wrong with them i,e canker ,cocci, worms

ive had no problems this time round but ive now had heaters fitted so all i can really put it down to is the cold weather

I should imagine that your birds weren't seperated for long enough. For good early breeding results, the longer they are seperated , the better.

dont know if iam the only one who thinks my birds feel a bit on the fat side this year and ive done nothing different from last year and some of mine havent layed yet so your not alone but plenty of time yet

I PAIRED UP 30 DECEMBER 21 PAIRS, STARTED TO LAY 9TH JANUARY NOW HAVE 16 PAIRS DOWN, THE OTHER PAIRS TOOK A FEW DAYS TO ACCEPT EACH OTHER, i ONLY SEPERATED FOR 12  DAYS AND PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER, WHILE APART I FED THEM 50% BARLEY DEPURITIVE AND 50% MOULTING MIX FOR THE 12 DAYS PUTTING WHEATGERM OIL AND LIQUID CALCIUM ON THE LIGHT MIX EVERYOTHER DAY ,THE BIRDS NEED TO BE THINNED DOWN BEFORE PAIRING AND THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS.   BANDIT

YOU WILL GET IT FROM ALL GOOD PIGEON SUPPLIERS OR IF YOU KNOW ANYBODY GOING TO BLACKPOOL YOU WILL GET IT THERE, THE LIQUID CALCIUM YOU WILL GET IN YOUR LOCAL CHEMIST OYSTERCARE IS ITS NAME FOR HUMANS AND VERY GOOD FOR OUR PIGEONS BEFORE PAIRING BANDIT

i wouldn`t worry i have 7 pairs of stock birds been together all winter 1 has layed sitting 6 days now and 3 more pairs paired up in the last 2 days it has been colder than normal this year so i`m just letting them get on with it in their own time i have a light that comes on at 5am and goes off when light 8am and everything has moved in the last 3 days since increasing the light hrs .
