Advice needed please folks, have pigeon that has hit wires and damaged his ring leg to the extent that it is now badly swollen below ring which is now immovable, would ring have to come off to aid recovery of leg? or any tips to reduce swelling would be appreciated.

Ice compress on and above ring as ring is metal it will keep cold and help control swelling.  Never put ice direct on skin as this can burn skin and cause pain for bird, bag of frozen peas or broken ice cubes in plastic bag wrapped in flannel put on ring for a couple of hours should help.
