addidas Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I was looking through my youngbirds 2night and noticed 1 sitting a bit thick. on examining the bird i noticed that it's tongue was looking a bit blue. dropping's seemed good and the bird had plenty of body and is in good feather. Just wondering if i should be treating for somthing imparticular or if i should get the droppings checked. I try not to treat blind but my first reaction was that this maybe a sign or respitory problems.
Tony C Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Could be a respiratory problem but has the pigeon a natural blue tongue? some do have this trait.
jimmy white Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 some birds are like this,, but if handling/flying/looking well , i wouldnt worry,,,,, but would do no harm to have droppings tested
addidas Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 pretty sure i would have noticed it's tongue being blue earlier as i often check there throats when examining my birds. i usually check the keels aswell. looking for blue skin. i have always found the pinker the flesh the better. not neccesarily that they will come just that there general health is better at this time. if it was not time to race the young birds i would have treat this for respitory and then treat it with sedechol. this ovcourse to fllush the liver. i have not had my youngbirds on the dark and fear that this would catapult this youngbird into the moult. to be honest though i think i will only get 2-3 races out of my youngbirds as the are pretty raggy.
Guest bigda Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 your feeding is wrong and you will find you have no form in your loft, and no down feathers give them plenty of garlic and tea and moulting seeds in the sky or in the loft for 4 weeks depurative till the down is flowing from them, start to up the feed 50/50, if you thing i am wrong say so, but i think the birds have been missing meals and then been fed heavy high protein type feeding

Bigda, have you got a blue nose ?? lol
addidas Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 intresting theory. i wouldnt disagree entirely. i have started using garvo corn for my youngbirds the rep has stated to my partner that this corn is all you need to feed. no seed or vits or anything need to be added. simply feed this corn and water with grit. but certainly i would not disagree. i have a friend who has raced fantastic with his oldbirds and he was told that this could be used for youngbirds also.
Guest gladdo Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 big da got to disagree with you there ...i had this problem like a blue - grey on tongue last year and birds did very well ...i was told on here to ignore it as no harm,.... every body is different its the same with the birds ....i have it this year also and i won last week out of big birdage so doesnt do them that bad .... people alway s just want to threat but why threat if there is no problem i say ??? thats what ruins the birds in my opinion.... only threat whe you have to i say ...mikey
Guest bigda Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 think your problem was well before, that mate, have a good look at your birds and check them out first for lice, then how bright there eyes are and i mean as if some one inside left the light on that bright if thats not there also do a droppings test with microcope or richets blue, for worms, but you must get the down from them your season could be already over mate could go on all day but i am not so for you all out there get down hunny

addidas Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 gladdo. i don't just want to treat. i simply wanted advise. just started up this year and thought some people maybe could help. cheers big da sound advice but less aragance nxt time your tone is pretty negative. i'm more ov and optamist than pesamist. I fly in the West Durham Amal and last week we had our first yb race from 79 miles. with a light head wind. I sent 23 birds and from getting my 1st pigeon i had 20 back in less than 20 mins. on return from club i had 22 out of 23. Many fliers in my area are still 15+ short so i don't think it is a serious health issue at the min.
Guest gladdo Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 big da nice points and we all trying to help but my birds are perfect and in fantastic health ...ive had droppings tested twice and both people wanted to know a program what i give the birds as to the result they were overly impressed with how low everythig was ... now i thought wait there a minute im doing something right and they wanting to know what i do with the birds .... i tell you mate dont worry too much as the birds will be ok but if you see them hasping forair when they land beak going up and down threat for respitory bud ,,, mine all have grey and none have resp problems ..... just a thought as trying to help out as we all are on here for ..... one another ...all for one , one for all !!!!! mikey (dublin )
Guest gladdo Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 adidas i told you pal im trying to help out .. i know you dont want to just threat i meant that at people sorry no harm meant ...sometimes words sound different..i tell you i had and still have and the birds are performing at high standard indeed ....dont worry mate and if you see them gasping pm me and i tell you whatsort that very quickly mate ..mikey
Guest gladdo Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 22 out of 23 told you it does them no harm ...only telling you what i had the same ...i sent 44 birds to my first race ...most had this and i got 44 back .... this year i sent 38 to first 2 races and got 38 back so you think it does them any harm ....defo not .... my opinion and experience as i feared when i seen it for first time aswell mate ...mikey
addidas Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 to be fair though gladdo my birds were a little off the pace 12 and 13th club but the 1st 11 paces were filled by 1 member. he had 91 away
Guest gladdo Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 91 away reminds me of our club ...wow ,,, some send 100 and at keast 2 or sometimes 3 and then 80 s and 70 s and 50 s depending on the race ....they would lose 20 and 30 nd still have same amount of young the following week so work that out ...mob fliers !!!!! he he he he ...i suppose all that matters bud is what you think .??? did you train them hard enough ...is birds good enough ??? are you doing them justice mate ?? is it his numbers thats beating you ...bet he did nt nom any of them did he ???? ha ha ha ha strange racing ...bring in the bird limits of 50 i say thats enough for each member max ...
Guest gladdo Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 wow some people are housing at least 250 young in our club and that sphoenominal ...i bet you this if i housed and raced as many as those members id beat them more than they would beat me !!!!!! there is a fantastic flier in our club at the moment called martin mc manus ...he races small and wins big !!! he won last 3 old bird races last year and he is some flier i tell you that ...he send 20 birds and he always there .... thats what you call a champion>>>>>in my eyes in anyways ...not these lads who sneak 2 wins a year racing heaps and heaps of birds .....
