too young ,too old ,too cold ,not prepared right ,lack of sunshine ,calcium ,vitamins et c etc . one of the above or a combination of.       andy.

i would of said because of the cold i paired up early last year and had a few with only one egg hence why im pairing later this year . how old is the hen by the way

Some maiden hens only lay one or some even lay a smaller that normal egg, just make sure it is not egg bound by checking for swelling at the vent, but if four days have past and it looks healthy I would not think so :-/

slip her a dummy and it will feel more natural to her

sitting a pair instead of one.

will put 1 in tomorrow as you are right will sit better,

to cold or to fat but more likly to be to cold
I have paired my hen up in may 1 year when i move house and she still only laid 1 egg in first nest, i put it down to that she lays 2 quick after 6or 7 days.
