This 07 bird was injured early on - but fully recovered and flew the full young bird programme. I think it is a hen - but she hasn't paired up - her nest mate is a hen - who did pair up ( just to give you some background) parents are both quite small

If it is a hen - although we won't be breeding from her - do you think 'she' may have done damage -so egg laying would be difficult - it wouldn't bother me if she never produced or laid any eggs - it would bother me if she had difficulty in trying to lay ( if you get my drift)

not all 07 birds will have paired up this year anyway, and dont see anything that looks serious enough to stop the bird laying if it is a hen

Thanks TAMMY_1  :K)

You're right, not all youngsters paired up - but atleast from those who did - and laid, you could positively identify whether cocks or hens - whereas this one showed no inclination of either sex - so can't be sure if she is a hen

Had a 3 yo hen hit by a hawk on a training spin July last year, came home next again night with a deep hole in her back, deep enough to pour neat antiseptic in 'and fill it up'.

Didn't give any thought to being able to breed again - she was sitting chipping eggs and she reared the two youngsters OK. My main worry was would she ever race again?

She laid and reared no prob this year, came OK from a couple of early short races, trying her out, but she failed to return from 157 mile race.

That will do for me ... for starters gal you can't ask anymore.

Plenty  of rest and contentment and Have  no doubt she will shine next year. Certainly hope so.

Had a young hen land on my landing board once. Both  legs severely shattered. But such was her endeavour to home and get in I spent time with her,m sellotaped  her legs up with match stick splints and hand fed  her. Thought that is the spirit I want from my birds to get home and she'd be a good stock hen. ...

Was like her family a bad trapper, and would have won a few *** like  her kin if trapped. The blood is no longer in my loft.

Was told, incidently when I chose her and parentage that they would fly great but would never be able to train  / change the trait of being bad trappers. But as they were cracking looking, and proved to be great racers, I never ever got on of the kin to trap. Home well from anywhere too.

I tried every trick and kindness in the book, but like To Robinson told me.... 'They will never trap' and he certainly taught me a lot, a very good and knowleadgeable fancier was / is he. From Scarborough if any one knows of him. Yes his other birds flew well for me...

Lol i hope thats not gonna happen to me Roland  ive got four young birds that raced the whole programme all of the same dam and sire and every race one of them was the first bird back and would not trap.

I lost the parents when i moved house and they are the only four i bred of them.

Incidently the last race one of them took a fed card after refusing to trap for a good five min's.

im amazed at how quick birds do heal  , my black one on hawks topic just a few weeks ago looked so bad , the bird is gleaming now,,, but i allways have my doubts [maybe wrongly] that once a bird is injured , it seldom wins again , but off course could still breed winners  :)  but good luck with the hen ,she looks really nice :)

Her half brother (same dam)  did very well this year as a yearling - so fingers crossed

most birds that have had a serious injury never achieve their true potential and if they hit a bad race will go down ??)

Most of our young bird races were bad ones - 50% of them were NW winds - as previously stated this hen didn't  let us down once, nor has she had a night out
