Bleach in Water

A couple of things to consider. If the bad bacteria is more virulent than the good and the good gets wiped out and some of the bad remained that would then leave the bad to run amok unchallenged.

The other is if it didn't eradicate the two completely and the bad is capable of multiplying quicker, again the bad could outweigh the good. In both cases the initial quick fix could be doing more damage than good in the long run.

I'm not saying this is what happens.............but could it?

Well I believe for a moment that the bird, the gut, or the Bacteria for that matter knws, or gives a jot whether it is good or bad. But surprisely, mostl the good far outwieghs and is stronger than the bad... may need a pick me up from time to time. But you know when you thing of it realistically, it is a virus / desiese that the good bateria has to normally fight against. And if the birds - admitted somethime there may be a reason - at sea, and others in loft aren't, then it is normally a cull. Your best birds seldom get really blown side ways, if indeed il at all. It is often the needless and wrng medicence that the Fancier pours down it's throat that is the main culprit. JMO

Spot on Rolland i went on a clean freek a couple of years ago used disifectant every day that was the only year i had y/bird probs. wont ever do it again killed all the good bacteria on the loft floor thats where they pick the most of it up from cider vin is only for fungal protection in my opinion but it also stops nasties from forming in the drinker

Milton. how many times do you give them in the water every week ?

At least vinegar is a foodstuff. Salt & even diluted bleach on fish & chips doesn't sound too appetising to me.

My birds get a bath every week and I put 1 cap full of milton in each bath.During the show season [may-january] I give them a capful of organic cider vinegar in their drinkers twice a week, they always have a garlic clove in their drinkers. These 3 things ensure fantastic feather quality for showing.I also disinfect using vircon s about every 6 weeks and clean out every day,but hey don't listen to me one keeled over this week and we're on the good old anti biotics,so perhaps too clean ?.Don't know

I know someone who uses milton quite a lot and one of his keeled over last week!! Mind he doesnt measure it out properly and prob overdosed the poor thing! Ive used it in the past, but prefer Cider vinegar, and probiotics  ;D

Salt doesn't do any harm to fish & chips, they're already dead. But it does cause high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke to those who eat it in excess of the body's daily needs,  :) so the 'sprinklers' won't be that far behind the fish & chips  :)

most of you use bleach without even knowing it ,,,, black minerals contain bleach

Emptied the last of a packet of Kilpatrick's iodised minerals today and must admit quite surprised to find it there on the packet, Jimmy : charcoal, iron, calcium, manganese, phosphorous, sulphur, iodine, magnesium, chlorine, salt.

Looked at the vet's link (above) and was quite surprised to find he knew about the human health questions surrounding chlorine use, and for that reason wouldn't administer additional quantities on himself .... but happy to do so with his birds? based on assumption alone?

So far: we know that our drinking water is chlorinated, and there is residual chlorine in our tap water (fizzy effect) now we know there's chlorine in mineral mixtures, available to our birds 24/7. Is it wise to give more?

I have well water so therefore no chlorine in the water and I am much better off without it I build swimming pools and am in contact with chlorine a LOT and can tell you it is bad stuff I have seen everything from wood to steel and plastic either dissolved, melted. or etched by this stuff so I cant imagine it wouldnt do the same to your insides I can't belive that someone would knowingly put this in the water I can understand using it to disinfect waterers and such but in the water ???? it clearly states on the label TOXIC this means it is poisin dont eat or drink it when you see a skull and crossbones on the label you probably shouldnt mix up a cocktail containing this stuff and drink it this is about like giving your birds rat poisin because you have mice in the loft

Cmon do you really think this is a good idea ???
