paullock Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Someone told me that if you use tap water when giving powdered medicines to pigeons that the clorine in the water nutralizes it and becomes useless, is this true? should I be using fresh water ie rain water or bottled. Kind Regards Paullock.

Roland Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 stand tap water overnight and it should be ok Exactly... it kills bateria like it is supposed to ... and like Bleach NOTHING should raly be mixed with it medicence wise. Leave a lid over but allow air to flow over. aPreferable about an inch all around so no creepy crawlies etc. fall in.
bluey Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Medcation treatments are best mixed with cooled boiled water. Any impurities in the water that may affect additives have been killed/neutralised.
lofty Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 To be on the safe side if using tetracyclines -terramicin, Doxycicline etc you should use distilled water if you live in a hard water (bottled water is 'hard') area otherwise the drug will bind to the calcium present and then can't be absorbed by the birds with most other drugs boiling and cooling (to remove chlorine and chloramine) is OK as they are not affected by calcium. Most water authorities use chloramine now as it is more stable than chlorine so standing overnight may not clear it. Lofty
