shweet Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 One of my birds has really watery droppings. What do I treat for ? They have been on antibiotics recently, the only thing I havent done really is worm them, could it be worms ?
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Why were they on antibiotics? Have they been vaccinated for PMV?
walterbmasson Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 SHWEET DONT GIVE TEM NO ANTIBOTICS JUST TAKE 2 DESERT SPOONS OF BICARBONATE OF SODA TO A GALLON OF WATER FOR 5 DAYS JOB DONE 8) 8) 8)
shweet Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 Wasnt sure what the problem was so some one told me to try antibiotics as they cover most things. They havent been vacinated since I bought them in from Holland a year ago, I was gonna weight until after breeding. Why do ya think that is what it could be and if I vaccinate them will that cure it ?
shweet Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 What does barcarbonate of soda do and where do I get it ?
blackdog Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 get it tested mate, move away from the rest soon as possible
Guest strapper Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 1st ..get the bird tested...if your bird has pmv then it must be treated accordinly...natural products will not get rid of pmv...thats only if the bird has it...which it could be a number of things. but as you dont know what is affecting the bird, get the bird looked at....once we know what is wrong ,then we can begin to help. im always here to offer help...pm me anytime.
Guest Owen Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 my question is the same as REDCHEQHEN. Why have you used antibiotics? You have obviously not had your birds tested properly because if you did you would know if they had worms or not. Worms are very easy to see under a microscope. It is my opinion, that it is a very bad idea to give pigeons antibiotics unless there is a very good reason. And after any treatment, the birds should be retested. If you don't do this properly you will build up the resistence in the bugs that your pigeons have had. Then not only will give yourself a big problem but, eventually, the rest of us as well. And it is worth you knowing that hair worm can be very hard to get rid of. I know of cases where Fanciers have treated up to 3 times before it has finally gone. If these birds had not been retested the worms would have stayed and built up their resistance. So I would urge you to go and get those birds tested so that you will know, not guess, what the position really is.
walterbmasson Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 SHWEET TESCOS JUST GIVE IT FOR 5 DAYS TAKE IT FORM ME MOST FANCIERS GET SOME BIRDS WITH WATERY DROPINGS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR DUE TO ALGIE ETC ITS[ VERY CHEAP WAY AND IT WORKS ]CHEERS
walterbmasson Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 STRAPPER HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO TEST WET DROPPINGS
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Most grocery stores sell bicarbonate of soda - its in the 'baking' department near the flour usually

REDCHEQHEN Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 shweet said VERY watery droppings - I'd be getting in touch with a vet if mine had VERY watery droppings with so much PMV about
walterbmasson Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 RED CHEQ HEN IAM NOT A VET BUT EVERYBOADY THAT HAS TRIED THIS REMEDY HAS BEEN AMASED HOW FAST ITS CLEARED UP BUT ITS UP TO THE FANCIER WHAT THEY WANT TO DO BUT ANYBOADY ON BASCIS SHOULD TRY IT FIRST SIGN OF ANY WATERY DROPPINGS I GIVE IT EVERY WINTER WHEN ALGIE IS AT ITS WORST

Guest IB Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I'm interested in the history of the pigeon with very wet droppings. Did this start before or after the antibiotic was given? Are the other pigeons OK? Have you put this bird in isolation?
Guest shippy Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 take a very good tip and listen to advice given by strapper on this topic
shweet Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 It feels a bit under weight and looks ill just to look at and didnt look proper before the antibiotics. The rest of the birds are tip top and I havent yet isolated it. Its a Danish tumbler that I bought back with several others (14 in total) from Holland so didnt want to get rid if I could help it. The trouble is I wanted to pair up early for racing next year and as it is in the cocks breeding loft and it just feels a bit close for comfort to me to start having problems in my loft. It is the easier thing to do. What do ya think, should I just bite the bullet and get rid ?

Guest strapper Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 as redcheq as said ,you have answered the question yourself...if its an expensive bird then personally i would have it looked at. what ever you decide seperate the bird into a box/basket for now.

No doubt in my mind that you should dispose of this bird without delay, it sounds as if it's on the way out anyway, and being in with the others puts them at risk.
