chaz Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 joe shore i bought from him years ago they didnt get past stonehaven lost everyone you must have been lucky with those (shrug) I had only bird on the day in the club (6th fed, 7 on day) from Saintes (just short of 500 miles) with a bird heavily inbred to my original Joe Shore bird , and bred a nice inbred family that were always around when the going was hard , unfortunately I had to give them up just as the results started to come :o :o "Old Joe" the original Joe Shore around 12 years old and still filling when pic was taken and with some of his descendants
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 well i am surprised at that i bought 10 birds from him way back lot longer than 12 years ago first trainer took 40 12 miles all home except joes birds got 3 later on at night 4 turned up next day still never seen the other 3 took them to the other side of stonhaven next day not one turned up none reported nothing as i said you must have been lucky birds look great in the pics lovely to see cheers bryan

mosslands1 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 hiya fred my birds have been in my family for over sixty ive looked after them for the last 30 + years with very little crosses and they still win remember all the birds of today came from pigeons of old so the birds of old were just as fast as todays birds its just us humans have found new methods of getting the best from our birds thats the only difference i think ?

I dont belive that, there is always selective breeding even if its within your loft you always breed the best with the best, 100 years ago pigeons were going at 40 miles an hour but now we are getting birds going over 60, that is just an compliment to you skills with the birds
Guest rene Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Is any body still racing any of the old English familys of birds or have they all gone. I'm talking about the 5Oo/600 or 700 milers. i have some of the old Barker strain dont know how they will do till i have some YBs off them got them in memory of my late father would like to get hold of some off the old Jamieson breed that my late father used to race very good birds my dad used to say
mark croker Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I have some barkers off a local fella, hasnt crossed them ever, does not race them no more but they have big peds for them, a mate of mine would have been 18 in the cester 2 bird but he could not get his clock in (he was gutted) there is more to come from these birds with good management, i only have a cock and a hen
Albear Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Tuplin has some Barkers for sale in the BHW today but he is costly but I suppose it is relative because he would appear to be still the top man in his area? If I was looking for a successful old family and there are many advetising the old starins but many have lost their vitality, I would definately go to Tuplin, if I had the money and didn't need to reduce my stock (cause I can't afford a loft the same size as my current). I would defintately visit him especially when I have a gson and gdaughter of Gala Ch Pied Man and a gson of Gala Reliance and another hen whose details I haven't to hand, but close to the well.
