With corn getting to stupid money nearly £10 for a measly 20KG bag, im thinking of mixing my own. Im currently diluting a Bucktons YBird high protein mix with extra wheat so its costing £25 for 60KG of corn.

Im thinking of making my own mix. My question is what should i put in it?  Im thinking of mapples, wheat, but what else?

why is corn so expensive? I cannot afford to keep the number of birds i want. Will the price ever come down? Im paying £5.50 for 20kg of wheat from the corn store. I have tried finding a local farm, but no joy.  :'(

Like yourself feed Bucktons, and experimenting with mixing my own feeding, not just because of costs, my birds always seem to leave something from the different mixes through the seasons: moulting mix they were leaving buckwheat till I started adding beans, maples & tares; breeding & racing mixes, they leave maize etc.

So don't see point of buying something they don't eat. Now looking to have bins which I can mix day by day to suit. Base will be beans, maples and tares, and singles [so far] will be wheat, maize, barley.

are swainstons mixes any good?

we have been using them for years as they are about 5 mile from my loft.

won Clermont (401 miles) and Lillers (328 miles) 1,2 & 3 for the past 3years on their all round mix with g10s

currently feeding them enterprize and barley for winter feeding, barley is very clean and of good quality
