Guest Davy Fleming Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Frank many guys simply can't afford V/Laga and by feeding J.A.S. keeps them in the game and think you need to take that into consideration. I only use V/Laga myself but can afford it. But the pocket only stretches so far mate for most.
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Exactly Davy.. good point.. And for those with restricted funds it is a decent corn..
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 do agree with you frank but will ask you one thing look at the old big dog tooth maize and plate maize covered with dust but that was maize dust some dont know the difference if i had the time i would buy straights and mix my own ive said that for years most fanciers me included realy dont know good qual food we dont know what to look for ive asked many in the know and now know what to look for in maize dust doesnt bother me as much as lumps of stone and other objects scraped up and put in the bag but some mixes are better than others as mick says about the belg mixes i wish could have them over here but that would go back to your valid point how much would that cost us

BLACK W F Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Frank if you could get a deal with guys putting there cash up front 1 bet you would bring it in at about £5 A bag providing you where bringing in a 20 ton load but you would need storage each take their own or done through clubs/feds cut the middle men out and the price comes down its the same go to the farms barley wheat black rape for next to nowt straight oot the dryer theres plenty ways to get quality and keep costs down JMO
tigger Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 wot is good corn and wot is bad corn
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 wot is good corn and wot is bad corn ive asked this for years for instance if i had a handfull of any mix and it had got damp and went a bit mouldy thats bad corn but if i took that same mix and put it in a dish towel and polished it i dont think most of us would know the difference so would it now be good corn i dont thinkso i feel that where alot of our problems are comming from regarding fungal growth i was told that the big dog tooth maze if it has cracked skin thats not good and of course no weivel holes (BUT THAT ONLY TELLS YOU THE WEIVEL HAS EATEN ITS WAY OUT) but it will have taken all the goodness out of that feeding and prob. left its waste stuff inside i could be 100% wrong in this as iam no expert just my thinking on this but peanuts i allways taste them if they are bitter i wont buy them some fanciers do that with other seeds maybe some one on here will know more let us know if you do
Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 ive said that for years most fanciers me included realy dont know good qual food we dont know what to look for ive asked many in the know and now know what to look for in maize dust doesnt bother me as much as lumps of stone and other objects scraped up and put in the bag but some mixes are better than others as mick says about the belg mixes i wish could have them over here but that would go back to your valid point how much would that cost us think this is a great debate ,i think the same way about corn quality ,last year i was gifted a yearling of a top fed winner .he went in the house for transfer form and i lifted his feed bin tops to look inside ? he fed (i told what i had done) farm stuff most of the time ,the barley and oats were dirty ,beans didnt look too grand either ,the cocnclusion i came to ,was the quality of the pigeon surpassed the feed. have heard many a story of winners fed on dog biscuits etc??? andy.
REDCHEQHEN Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 I've bought farm barley, wheat, beans and maples and it was all clean maybe he collected from the fields himself !!!

Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 I've bought farm barley, wheat, beans and maples and it was all clean maybe he collected from the fields himself !!! i think thats the best way i wish i was clever enough to get the mix correct all farm feeding is the best if the farm is run correctly but we in this country esp scotland cant grow the right stuff all the mixes that say versa -l do have been designd by good dietetions i spoke to the boy at blackpool they have invested lots of money to get the mix right he said us fanciers still dont trust them for instance the best maze for a pigeon is the bigest dog-tooth stuff so i asked why they dont put alot of it in the mixes he said its because fanciers think they know better and wont buy it because the bird has to dislodge its jay to eat it and we dont like to see that so wont buy it
Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 when i first raced (as a wee boy) i fed maize only (was pig feed and shamefully stolen off a farm) dusty as hell ,i coated it with cod liver oil ,a tip from an old fancier , i entered the only rung yearling i had in an open race (600 birds all single nomination) was told by many i didnt stand achance ,this bird had a total of 12 training tosses from 10 mile as a yb,that was a sfar as i could go on my pushbike. i was 13th in that race ,shook a few old hands that day .andy.
