cheap doesnt mean theres no quality i beat 4 Scarborough clubs from Jouey Le Chatel using my own mixed farm corn not another bird for 5 minutes and i lost 5 minutes trapping , kirky watched mine been trapped traveled up road to his mates and watch the other club winner been clocked

where is your loyaly to your local supplier who has been there all the time you get what you pay for

Theyre too greedy now. I try and Boycott them when possible. I think if everyone bought corn from local farms, the prices would soon come down  :-/

what would be the best mix to race on as a base mix to either add proteins ,fats, carbs to

i can only get

wheat, barley, maize .maples ,tics , rape ,layers pellets as straights

but can by fats etc seperate

what would be the portions of the above members would use as the standard mix

The thing is how do you measure quality,I to race mainly on corn I get from a farm only yesterday I went to get 6 bags of barley and 4 bags of beans but  is it better in quality than if I had bought say a bag of verse laga from the local shop at probably 3 times the price.

i use my local supplier craigmillar pet supplies. it has been explained to us in the shop how much profit is on a bag.i for one wont change from the £1 they make on a bag take of 2 cups of tea and a hand full of biscuits. i for one will stick by my local supplier. :)

i use swainston good feed a bit cheaper than the foreign brands but i will when racing go back to marimans

Just wondering why you go back to a much dearer brand when racing starts,do you think its a better quality, just trying to see what others think about quality and price.

quality comes from how its harvested and allowed to dry ectra wheat barley if get damp will mould if you eat and few bits of wheat and barley you can taste if it has mould and you can usualy tell by the colour of its quality , peas and pluses  can wrinkle and split and also squash but if stored and dried correctly you can determine the quality of it quite simple realy its not put in a spinner and polished or died to gain colour to look like something its not , most top brands are good quality corn and yes i have used them and do use them for racing but like i said i have won on corn ive mixed myself and  also on branded corn if i have the room i have no bother mixing it myself but guess if limited room pre made mixes are easier but you pay more for it  :)

I agree with what you say but I still cant believe that the quality of corn in a £5 bag is going to be as good as one costing £15.

never brought so called top of range expensive corn.

use a basic mix and had to it what i think.(results prove how good corn is not what you pay for it)

24x 1sts this year so im happy.

going off thead a bit though the question was about swainstons?????

well i suppose its a bit like this if you took a tin of beans one shops own brand and a tin of heinz both contain harricott beans in tomatoe sauce both have a tin ones branded other a cheaper alternative but the same beans are used , and if probably removed the labels and tried both they would be very little difference  , i read somewhere  the belgians actualy import our maples and tic beans and were just buying them back realy ;)

I have used swainstons mix for the last 8 years and had great success with it,BUT last year due to the rising costs of feeding I ordered a ton of mix and was disapointed to find that it was packed out with white and blue peas which the birds didn't like and their trapping mix was like a "souped-up" depuritive it was mostly wheat, barley and dari.

last year I started racing well but around the 5th and 6th race I lost 20 odd birds I put it down to the poor feeding.
