Guest Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 At the moment I think they are victims of their own success, through word of mouth and deed fanciers have realised that this is a service provided by committed and caring people. They now seem to be leading the courier market. The last thing they want to do is turn away business. I agree 100% with you Albear. A fantastic couple doing a fantastic job. If they have promised people that their birds will be there, then knowing Debbie, Wayne and their drivers they will do their utmost to be with you. I know for a fact that Wayne is out on the road at 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning and then out again at 6am to try and satisfy us all. As for Debbie, well, she phoned me Wednesday night, full of the flu, and almost in tears, not because of the pressure getting to her, but because she was upset at letting people down, That's what you call dedication. We should all be only to pleased that we have people like them who, who keep at it, and don't throw in the towel when the chips are down.
PigeonTracker Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Turning down business is always the last thing you want to do but the first thing you must learn to do if your ever going to survive long term. I like Debbie and Wayne and don't see them as competition as they actually lesson the burden on Pigeon Tracker by taking on work we'd never be able to handle but at least we're honest enough to admit that. The businessman in me says let them suffer through their own success but the heart in me says no, I have to speak up and tell them to be brave and make hard decisions to stay realistic and not set their targets too high because it really will be their undoing. Allbear, this is the easy period, come real season what D and W are experiencing is going to be ten times as hard because even if we combined every courier out there at the moment we don't have even a percentage of what Amtrak had and that's the problem. If the courier system isn't going to self implode we need to get cohesiveness between couriers where we all work out a system that will allow us to cover the UK more efficiently. Debbie, Wayne, I know you'll get to read this so openly say, take it easy, turn the work down if its threatenin to stretch you to the limits. I know what its like to sleep in vans overnight, I know what its like to almost fall asleep at the wheel, and I'm pretty sure I know what your going through right now more than most on this forum so please, take it easy and learn to say no. At the moment I think they are victims of their own success, through word of mouth and deed fanciers have realised that this is a service provided by committed and caring people. They now seem to be leading the courier market. The last thing they want to do is turn away business. It can be worrying when your waiting for that cracking bird however I personally am happy to do that because they are nice people and always want to do their beat and help. October to March is the peak period for birds, old bird sales, then YB, come April they should be in a position too look back and evaluate, come this time next year they will have the experience under their belt and will be providing an even better service.
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 she said yesterday 4oo names to do before christmas thats alot That is too many I feel for them - my husband works in haulage and I think the most drops he has done in a day is 26 (not pigeons) and thats him being out of the house for 12 hours - and not long haul either - and that many drops is also once in a blue moon !!
Guest Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 The problem Pigeon Couriers have is that it is not always possible to collect/deliver during the day as a lot of people are working, which only makes the problem worse from them.
wayne77 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 As you say Mademental. If you get them delivered in 24hrs as Flyin Couriers does they don't need a drink, but on the odd occasion that the don't putting them to a drinker box is all you need. My design will be posted once I patent and copyright it Pretty easy to do Duncan already designed mate

Could not agree more Bob, which is why we ask for people to try and accomodate early and late drop-offs. This will never be compulsory but its the only way us smaller couriers are ever going to make the best of a bad situation. I see the key to couriers and fanciers avoiding armageddon is to work together and accept that there is no such thing as a guaranteed 24 hour delivery service any more. I'm going to make a post based on what we faced last year with the hope that other couriers and all fanciers with an invite for members to throw ideas into the pot for us all to learn with a view to creating at least some level of happy medium.
Guest Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 No doubt it's real tough at the mo, hopefully the reward will compensate.

Silverdale Lofts Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Doesnt everyone have mobile nos now to get contacted on :-/ PIgeon couriers picked up some pigeons for me early on friday morning to be delivered to my works this morning and collect 4 pigeons from myself to go to scotland ive just gone into the loft and taken the birds out of the boxes and put them back into the loft i wasnt the biggest fan of Amtrack but if you rang them up they did pick them up same day and was delivered next day i know its a bad time with xmas and they have had trouble with the phone lines but a call this morning from a mobile would have been nice also im not in favour of holding lofts pigeons getting taken out of boxes then put back in boxes.
Guest bigda Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 don't worry about flying courier's, they are well ahead ;D of the game, as others sit on there hands, the only company i see having a future is flying couriers, as they have the consideration of the fancier at heart, and as others seem to thing, will we phone the dead wood after the Christmas period, i don't think so there names will forgotten by that time this is a results business the more work you do the more you get rewarded , i don't suppose fanciers have noticed the, considerate type of employer, who can give staff 3 week holidays, is that with full pay and bonus when really all the fancier want is someone who cares for there needs, now not in January,
