davebuttle Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 1st Young bird lost today, opened the loft door this afternoon and i was rushed by 25 ybs wanting to come out. Anyway probably one less for the futurity race as it was chequer FUT539, it may come back! I have had trouble getting 2 older birds in for the past 2 days. Tree hopping and flying with the others but just would not come in. They are in now (FUT539 still missing) but i just wonder if something has spooked them. There is nothing flying around(no hawks), no rats or mice as we always have poison down in certain areas. Dave
Wiley Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 maybe cats mate do u have any problems with this
davebuttle Posted February 18, 2007 Author Report Posted February 18, 2007 No dont think so, only ever seen one cat, that didnt come any closer than the allotments which are about 50 metres away , at the nearest point to the lofts. The little blighter may come back, but if not its one less to feed. Anyway that one and its nest mate (a £10 ring) are the ones my dad said would fly off, as they are both too keen to get out. Dave

davebuttle Posted February 18, 2007 Author Report Posted February 18, 2007 Newton Aycliffe, about 10 miles south of Durham. Cheers Dave
REDCHEQHEN Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Was it wing stamped or have a telephone number ring on ?
davebuttle Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 No wing stamp or leg rings. I normally wing stamp when all the ybs are together, still have about 6 to go in the yb loft. (which would be this week). This one is probably about the oldest of the bunch at about 28-29 days old. Dave
davebuttle Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 Good News He or she is back, dived into Bobs loft 2 down from ours tonight. Dave
REDCHEQHEN Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Good News He or she is back, dived into Bobs loft 2 down from ours tonight. Dave Great news ;D Did it walk there, or could it actually fly? ;D
davebuttle Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi REDCHEQHEN, It came out of the sky (flying) and obviously very hungry. I wasnt up the loft at the time, but Bob brought it round home as we know which ring numbers belong to each other in the club. When it did take off the other day it did fly over about 3 times but then disappeared. So must have gone for a look around. Glad it came back. Dave

davebuttle Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Hi Mac, in the Homing world there was an advert from the NEHU, about 1500 rings left. I think if you ring up, you can reserve some till your payment arrives. Hi Sean, things are fine now, dad is doing well. I have just gone back to work after my shoulder operation, it was a lot worse than they thought. Still have to do physio every day and it might be another 3 months + before totally fit. Your pictures look good, and your ybs are smart looking, i think i have the dopey ones, as soon as i open the loft door they try and rush out to get a feed. It should be that they stroll out and then run in for a feed when i shake the can. Might get them trained to run in and not out sometime lol. Dave
gangster Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 nice to see you got the y/b back...............
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 gald you got the young bird back mate
davebuttle Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks All, Still got 36 out of 40 y/bs at the moment, lost 4 just going round the lofts. Hawks been about so that might have got one or two. Had 2 that just wanted freedom and took off like no tomorrow, heading west. Had first training chuck today for old birds, all came back, some a lot slower than others. 1st race next week, so they may get 2 more chucks, its only 65 mile and they fly round the loft for a least an hour each day.
