everyone is different

people buy fo strain achievements and also the pedigree

but the pedigree des not show anything  JMO

i look for a pigeon that catches my eye

regardless of strain or achievements

ballance , feathering , type , fresh blood , something that will compliment what i have ;)

Look for the pigeon first, pedigree second. Pedigrees are only a guide to how the bird is bred, you should look for birds that fit into your family and not because a piece of paper says they will. jmo

I have to agree with alan An honest & trustworthy vendor, small loft with big results or you could go to a local top flyer and buy birds from them , thats what I would do if I had to start again, A lot of my spirnt birds are all front and nothing at the back and good feathering, and a good few fed winners among them but I dont have the skill to tell a good one or bad by handling them

Me to mate but some that are for sale woundn't make the perch in my loft yet they sell for thousands,

winners come in all forms big to small most important feature of any pigeon is its feathering , without good feathering the bird is never going to make a good bird ;)

Are you talking about a good racer here or good breeder as most pigeons that are bought IMO would be for stock.

seen a cracking pair just the other day , tight silky feathering on both , good stance and shape ,eyes were sparkling .a blue cock and a light grizzle hen , they were both pecking at the same sausage roll outside gerrards the bakers on queen street in the town.      andy.

winners come in all shapes and size's the look of the pigeon

feathering, balance a bright eye, and i look at the performance in racing and breeding  of the bird itself or the  parents

and  the honesty of the man selling them

both as if feather on parent of a bird is poor then it is likely to pass the same traits on to its offspring  and besides if an underirable trait i dont want it popping up in future birds :)
