Guest IB Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I think there's no easy answer to this and I can only outline the plan I follow which is taken from an internet book 'Art of Breeding': start with best distance breeding you can obtain. Pair them up, and test progeny. (I split pairs after one year's breeding, swapping pair partners every year, testing their progeny, bring in fresh pigeons regularly, test progeny) ... until you find pairings that are throwing birds that are getting results that you want, then breed more off them ~ if you've still got them that is!! Time? I think that depends on when you believe birds are mature enough for channel racing, e.g. one of my club mates who specialised in SCC channel racing reckons birds for Scottish channel races should be a minimum of 3 y-o, so that's 4 years needed to prove 1 test pairing. Another who was very consistent but has been quiet of late has also come to the same conclusion, after studying SNFC results sheets, and failing recently with 2 y-o's.
