tarzan Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Or Tarzan you can just politely say 'Sorry I don't want it, and as I don't cull my own, I'm blumming sure I am not culling your's'. RPRA rule state that they MUST send / collect it if you so desire. roland i know where your coming from ,but the fate of the bird is left with the finder ,if they cannot afford to send for it then what ,i have disposed of many bird no longer wanted or willing to send for ,your still inconvienced if you have to keep reporting it through the region ,if your not prepared to cull it .i recently released a pigeon i reported not two miles from the persons loft after having it two weeks returning it back to good health after the bird dropped in knackered ,after driving seventy miles to get it home ,even phoned the bloke to say where and time i let it go ,he didnt even have the decency to telephone me back and say thanks .but he told me he couldnt afford to send for the bird by amtrax .
tarzan Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Interesting nobody has said isolate it, then report it etc etc, never know what a stray may be carrying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! any bird is isolated in my basket shed away from the birds instantly ,im sure no one would be foolish to keep them with there own birds or would they
Guest Thunder Birds Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Interesting nobody has said isolate it, then report it etc etc, never know what a stray may be carrying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like you say isolate it immediately! Illness is one reason they can get lost in the first place! Then report it. If don't get a positive response feed it up and liberate it some distance away- give it another chance
mark Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 i cant believe someone voted bin it???? whats that all about??? thats the trouble the above or £30. if get any bird in i try to feed them and give them a toss somewhere on the line of flight home.
joe61 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 when people say to you bin it tell them to send for it and do the dirty work them self they dont want to pay £30 quid carridge oh happy days
pjc Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 A bird that is exhausted and run down will take approx 10 days to regain condition, so if a bird is going to be tossed nearer home give it time to recover first. There is no point chucking it up the next day as it will just drop into the nearest loft it finds! Phil
Guest karl adams Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 if you tell them they must send for it they have no say in the matter and if they cant pay £30 to get them back y do they send em
gazza1 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 i have 3 missing youngsters and just getting my 1st lot out flying..all lost from top of loft in pompey..i would like to think if someone had them they would be kind enough to report.. all stamped and have rings with phone no..still no luck but got to get the rest settled as i will never get to race and i am keen too..report them...i would love to have mine back ..rgds steve
just ask me Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 roland i know where your coming from ,but the fate of the bird is left with the finder ,if they cannot afford to send for it then what ,i have disposed of many bird no longer wanted or willing to send for ,your still inconvienced if you have to keep reporting it through the region ,if your not prepared to cull it .i recently released a pigeon i reported not two miles from the persons loft after having it two weeks returning it back to good health after the bird dropped in knackered ,after driving seventy miles to get it home ,even phoned the bloke to say where and time i let it go ,he didnt even have the decency to telephone me back and say thanks .but he told me he couldnt afford to send for the bird by amtrax . if the bird is not worth the price of amtrax what the point of breeding it feeding it rearing it seems mad to me my beilf is theses pll dont carre much about there birds probally think if they work hard 2 weeks before season they will get results probally turn up to the club knowing all to well there birds are sick and dont even havre respect for other fanicers that take care of there birds they breed to many to counter act there loses which makes things worse and its just a cyle that gets worse and worse
gangster Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 no bird stays with my own birds its separeted from all others...
ChrisMaidment08 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 its hard to insist someone sends for there we are all in the same boat how can you decide someone can afford to keep sending for them the stray centre would help this matter and once fanciers cought on it would help us all but how maney of you have put youer names down plus you will always get told to cull me if thats the first words then you send for it
Merlin Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Trouble is when you get quite a few strays in where you suppose to put them obviously dont want them with your own birds and if you report them they got upto 14 days to get in contact with you to decide what they going to do about it This is the big problem, most have neither contact no/wing stamp, and when contacted most fanciers make little effort to repatriate, more often putting onus on you to do so, this is the reality what lots of fanciers are faced with on an ongoing basis, depending on loft location, often caring for birds belonging to others who couldnt care less.
pjc Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 If the stray centres are set up then there should be a nominal charge for holding the birdsto cover food etc.
Roland Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Perhaps the time has come, sadly, where one puts on it's wing stamp 'Please phone ... I want', Often thought about it myself. Put - for Joe Public benefit mainly 'I'm lost please phone 45ty3287541' etc. Does one taket that if no wing stamp - per law - that the owner doesn't want it back?
pjc Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 The RPRA havn't got a clue and have there head in the sand, deaply burried! Last weekend, birds still being raced from restricted AI area! Birds being sent over the channel 2 weeks running and being in 2 results! Birds being double rung raced 1 week with 1 number and the next week with the other number! All reported to the reddings with no comment received on any of above. If they don't act DEFRA will pull the plug on all of us! Phil
pjc Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 my stamp says "PLEASE REPORT ME" Still doesn't work very often as non fanciers don't know where to look for it!
Roland Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 my stamp says "PLEASE REPORT ME" Still doesn't work very often as non fanciers don't know where to look for it! Beats 'Cook slowly over gas' ;D ... ha been done too.
carlsberg Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 i always report strays and hope that some will report mine
thunderboult Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 i alway's report strays and would like some more of mine reported but for some people it's to much trouble . these so called fancier's that ask you to kill their birds if they come into your loft should be ashamed of themselves, makes you wonder what they do when they get a stray in!!! . since i started in 2004 i've only had 1 old bird reported in hamburg, north germany and 3 young birds(from about 100/150 birds lost). surely some of those birds have turned up at fancier's lofts.
just ask me Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 its a bit off the point but how many times do u breed off parents that there young are lost from
pjc Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 It doesn't matter how good the parents are some will always be lost from them! Phil
Guest IB Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Just my opinion, but feel the wing stamp isn't helpful for members of the public, most of them wouldn't know how to open the birds wing - telephone rings are easier all round, for them and us, and I'd like to see all birds wearing them, including Scottish ones. Easier to phone the owner direct than report thro Union. Don't know where the birds get to, but I don't / can't believe that most of them meet their end at the hands of unscrupulous fanciers. If I get one in, its boxed, fed & watered and if uninjured, given a chance to clear next day. Surely that's not too much to ask? In Scotland, with YBs, if they don't clear, they go to the stray centre on Friday, and they are back with their owners on Sunday. Cost? £3.50.
Guest chrisss Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 i always get in touch with the owner and go with what he wants to do with it,which causes problems if he says keep it,around my way strays are binned by most guys[rumor has it that includes other clubmates birds one less to fly against]two fanciers who live very close to me have a reputation going back over 30 years of nutting anything that comes in,[which means some of my yb but try proving it]most strays are binned nowdays ,right or wrong, because most can't be bothered to report it
