Roland Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Also I believe 'Old Yellows' take all the beating. Think some are same families as Kevs. Might be wrong.... a first time for everythink I guess lol ;D ;D

Guest bakes Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 would not look past oldyellows or kirkys birds might be wrong but think kirky and oldyellow bought stock from kevin glover and they turned out to be handy birds all the best k.baker

OLDYELLOW Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 might be wrong but think kirky and oldyellow bought stock from kevin glover and they turned out to be handy birds all the best k.baker i bought my Kirkpatricks direct from Louella in 92 / 93 spending alot of money on them , was young and naieve but managed to get a few good birds out of them , and these birds won me the combined adverage the first year i flew widowhood and the year after just won the channel adverages as failed to send to last young bird race or would of been two years on the trot but dint realise the ybs adverages went towards the combined , we live and learn i shortly after packed up loaning kirky these birds as a family which were returned when set back up , these birds have won up to 3rd fed level for others my best win at fed level was 1st club 1st section 6th fed 358 miles with a cock called Dusty , i have retained these lines and will be building a good channel team up again which does take time
Guest lenwadebob Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I was ringing my brain earlier on what members had them and bugger me its two i should have remembered. Only heard good about Mark & Kirky's birds Shouldn't take long to wring your brain out mate ;D ;D ;D ;D Fancy forgetting two of the most obvious choices. ;) ;D
Guest lenwadebob Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Is Archie the Guvnor then and you the Boy ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
kirky Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 i bought my Kirkpatricks direct from Louella in 92 / 93 spending alot of money on them , was young and naieve but managed to get a few good birds out of them , and these birds won me the combined adverage the first year i flew widowhood and the year after just won the channel adverages as failed to send to last young bird race or would of been two years on the trot but dint realise the ybs adverages went towards the combined , we live and learn i shortly after packed up loaning kirky these birds as a family which were returned when set back up , these birds have won up to 3rd fed level for others my best win at fed level was 1st club 1st section 6th fed 358 miles with a cock called Dusty , i have retained these lines and will be building a good channel team up again which does take time as mark said i had all his stock birds for 2 years then he started back up and i gave him them all back 14 pairs all sons and daughters of the best louella had, the offspring of these have been winning for me ever since.
Guest IB Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I was interested in racing Kirkpatricks myself when I started back, but made the costly mistake of going to a well known stud for them. The source of the family I have were gift birds from Jimmy White on here, g/children from his Sir Colin, which was a Kirkpatrick and scored in SNFC at 500+ and 600+ miles. I note that you are looking at a second distance family and I think you would also be thinking of crossing this with the Kirkpatricks? Back when Dennis Norden of Eastriggs was 1st & 2nd in SNFC, in the club video he said that he'd tried crossing his Kirkpatrick family with those of John Carmichael, he felt they were too close, and he tried crossing his own with Van Hee. He credited that cross with lifting him from top 50 in SNFC to top 10. So maybes have a think about what families might make a good cross?
fletch Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 have always admired this breed think they always do well as my dad has never been intrested in them, we never had them, but know i got my own may get hold of a few youngbirds,
Guest cowboy Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 you could try michael bray from norwich or r.williamson and son plymouth or j&m crowder stallingborough all have old breed kirkpatricks
kirky Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 i would only buy them from a racing loft with results, some that are advertised have not seen a basket for years,
Guest IB Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 i would only buy them from a racing loft with results, some that are advertised have not seen a basket for years, That was one of the points in my post, and then there's the one that used to have his name in banner headlines at top of his advert. Sharing same name (though not the same birds) with a very well known Ace is a bit of an eye-catcher. Fooled me anyhow.
pjc Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 did anybody ever have any from Sergents from Stoke on Trent?
Guest bigda Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 how old is that family of birds now
Guest IB Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 how old is that family of birds now You could ask the same question about the other breeds mentioned on forum e.g. Janssen, Vandevelde etc. I think John Kirkpatrick's clearance sale was in late 1940s / early 50s? But you could claim a family is only as 'old' as its last winning members. Know Jimmy White's Sir Colin, and Stan the Man scored in mid 1990's, I haven't noted Kirkpatrick winners since then, but I/m sure they are still there..
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 did anybody ever have any from Sergents from Stoke on Trent? Are these still racing? I will be interested in the Kirkpatricks when i get a racing loft
paddymac Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 how old is that family of birds now Old enough to have a history and young enough to still be winning today. Super pigeons that won't let you down.
kirky Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Old enough to have a history and young enough to still be winning today. Super pigeons that won't let you down. very true never let me down, would fly through a brick wall on hard days to get home.
