yeboah Posted June 27, 2019 Report Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) Decided to darken a team of youngster's this year and have a go racing them I've not darkened for a good few years and not raced them the last 2 which I don't think has been one of my best decisions Hatched out beginning of March ,didn't let them out just into aviary/cage I lift onto landing Taught them to trap through Bob's immediately I called on them Out for first time when they were nearly completed the moult on Monday 27th may Dipped them in water and put onto landing with traps shut Sun was to hot and they dried to quickly and were airborne Flew in singles all over Moffat didn't know how to land lol Ended up with 46/49 Since then they batched really quickly and are ranging well Excellent health with being so strong Basket next week Think the major plus is all one age Will not change that system in future Has anyone else tried this Edited June 27, 2019 by yeboah
neila Posted June 27, 2019 Report Posted June 27, 2019 That's interesting bet you were nervous when they took up Glad it's worked out for you,. I know some who in the past didn't have them out to there eyes change
eastcoaster Posted June 28, 2019 Report Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) Have not raced my ybs in 5 years but like you mick think it's time to change ,with all the fast racing this year my inexperienced yearlings are getting blown over and not having the experience to correct themselves .Don't do the darkness here but mine are second round ybs just up and ranging in the last week, I feed heavy until they have walked around garden and know how to get back in loft with confidence if spooked then start to change feeding to Gerry + and depurative and trapping mix and away they go flying for fun also keep a pair old birds in with them to hold close to home until confidence builds then remove them .Good luck today mick .
