Guest KING BILLY Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 King Billy/ Tammy/Nogin; is this topic just for you down and out blue noses? Mon the HOOPS King Billy is for the birds King Billy didn’t just win the Battle of the Boyne – he helped win World War 11 as well. It’s emerged that William of Orange was awarded a coveted war medal for bravery during the fight against the Nazis. Apparently in 1944 he flew 250 miles for the battlefields of Western Europe to England with a vital message for his military leaders. Alright, so this story has wings. It wasn’t really King Billy – instead it was a pigeon named after him. Pigeon NS, number 15125 AKA William of Orange was awarded the covered Dicken Medal for his brave efforts – which is the animals version of the Victoria Cross. Pigeon fanciers hope the news will be the boost the sport needs here as the Northern Ireland Sports Council will not giving it funding. There are over 100 pigeon clubs here and almost 3,000 members of the NI Pigeon Amalgamation says the UUP MLA Michael Copeland. Its deserves full recognition as a sport and a large section of our community should not be isolated because the government doesn’t see fit to classify it as a sport Just in case you waned to know where the name came from .............. TAM ;D
