Is this the sloar flare activity that roundo and bilco comment on in their articles in the bhw ? seems to be a lot of sense to what they say.

  10. By the sound of things both wee peg and westy will go on to make names for themselves and race succesfully in the future, we could do with more like these two lads in the sport.

Has to be, and one of the most competitive along with it.
  12. Well said.
  13. whilst i agree that a lot of pigeons are being bred then raced unneccessarly, (spelling), getting back to the maidstone race, many good pigeons are absent from their perches i would imagine, not just from fanciers who for want of a better expression "mob fly" but from guys that have been at it for years and breed and send good birds to these races. I believe that again it ultimately goes back to the controllers/conveyors decision as to whether to liberate or not, in this case, and again it's was'nt just a run of the mill race it was a national after all, good pigeons will have been lost through homework not being done.
  14. With all due respect Rose, nobody is asking them to put themselves forward, i certainly would'nt just because nobody else was prepared too. why try to do a job that again with all due respect they do not have the knowledge to do properly. with fanciers paying hundreds, sometimes thousands for birds, then the cost of ets and everything else involved in racing these days surely funds must be available from somewhere to resolve this issue. yours Celtic
  15. Ian my name is Darryn McGreevy, save yourself the effort re proposing me for that position. Firstly i would not consider my self knowledgeable enough, where as it seems some think that they are and alas in this case they have been proved to be way below what is required for the job. It only takes one bad race to ruin fanciers few years work, the race in question being a national where everybody wants a bit of glory was always going to attract a good entry...it was also going to guarantee large losses given the fact that those supposedly in the "know" about the weather etc chose to liberate when they did. there was quite simply no need for it. Congratulations to all those that got birds home in good time.
  16. I meant to say conrollers Bart, apoligies.
  17. Ian , you say we choose to send our birds knowing the weather but now we want to blame the conveyors, why, why, why. I'll try to explain why...their job is not to get out of their cabin, have a look around ,have a cup of coffee, check the sky again then let them go. their are supposed to do their homework , right the way back up the road, every bit of it. Too right i blame the conveyors , yes we blame them when something goes wrong and why should'nt we ?, they are not up for the job, plain and simple, anybody can release birds when the weather is nice, it's when there is a bit foresight required we need someone who has that foresight, not conveyors who are worried about getting them up for whatever simply for whatever the reason. For the money they get paid they should NOT be making basic mistakes like this that have cost fanciers if not thousands at the very least many hundreds of hundreds of birds.
  18. If the transporter was needed for wednesday then make contingency plans , as posted above it will be interesting to see how many birds are actually declared missing from the race ? i'm none from 5, even if we just get a rough figure from members on here it should tell a story, perhaps give it until say Monday then those who sent can post what their returns were...good or bad.
  19. At a guess 9 1/2 to ten hours with the weather they will have to get through. Hope you have a good race Rab.
  20. Edinburgh, slightly overcast but dry.
  21. Morning gareth, The common sense side!! Every man and his dog knew what the forecast was going to be so why send them down when they did ? could they not have delayed it ?. Hopefully you won't come back with the fact that they could'nt delay the lib until midweek because people are working...the way it's looking it'll be a midweek lib as it is so fanciers will have to take a day of anyway. It is not rocket science, there is no need for it in this day and age.
  22. Pentland fed along with the national birds held over at maidstone. what was the point in taking them down there when they knew what the forecast was going to be ?, it's forecast bad for tomorrow also say it could be a monday liberation. somebody is'nt doing their homework...with all the new weather sites etc, your not going to try to justify sending them down there when they did, is it any wonder fanciers come into the sport them just as quick leave it again, it is a shambles.
  23. Edinburgh, drizzle and overcast.
  24. Hope your up and about again soon Speckled.
